Operations Manager Transportation
Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for managing end-to-end transportation operations ensuring efficient fleet utilization timely delivery cost control and service quality. The role also oversees tender participation bidding processes contract execution and compliance to support business growth and long-term client partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet & Transportation Operations
- Oversee daily transport operations including dispatch routing and scheduling
- Ensure optimum utilization of fleet drivers and transport resources
- Monitor vehicle maintenance breakdown management and operational efficiency
- Track fuel usage trip performance and cost control
Route Planning & Dispatch Management
- Plan and optimize routes for cost efficiency and timely delivery
- Coordinate load allocation trip planning and shipment tracking
- Resolve operational delays and ensure service continuity
Tender Management & Bidding
- Identify and review transportation tenders from government and private clients
- Manage tender registration documentation and eligibility compliance
- Prepare and submit competitive bids in coordination with finance and management
- Analyze tender requirements costing and pricing strategy
- Maintain tender database and track submission deadlines
Contract Management & Fulfillment
- Review execute and manage transportation contracts and service agreements
- Ensure operational compliance with contract terms SLAs and delivery timelines
- Monitor contract performance renewals and amendments
- Coordinate with clients to ensure service commitments are fulfilled
- Handle documentation and reporting related to contract obligations
Team & Vendor Management
- Supervise drivers supervisors and operations staff
- Manage performance training and compliance of operational teams
- Coordinate with transport vendors brokers and third-party logistics partners
Service Delivery & Customer Coordination
- Ensure timely delivery of goods and service quality
- Manage operational escalations and client communication
- Monitor customer satisfaction and resolve service issues
Cost Control & Performance Monitoring
- Monitor transportation costs fuel consumption and maintenance expenses
- Improve operational efficiency and reduce downtime
- Track KPIs such as delivery performance utilization and trip profitability
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare operational MIS reports and performance dashboards
- Maintain transport records permits trip sheets and compliance documents
- Support billing invoicing and documentation verification
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with transport regulations permits and legal requirements
- Maintain vehicle fitness insurance and driver documentation
- Implement safety procedures and accident prevention measures
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Logistics Supply Chain Business or related field
- 5 years of experience in transportation or logistics operations
- Experience in tender participation bidding and contract management
- Strong knowledge of fleet management and route planning
- Good analytical negotiation and coordination skills
- Proficiency in MS Excel and transport management systems
Preferred Qualifications
- MBA in Logistics / Operations (preferred)
- Experience handling government tenders or large logistics contracts
- Knowledge of freight costing and pricing models
