Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Public Works the Energy Management Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the identification evaluation and implementation of opportunities to increase corporate community building efficiencies for the City. The position performs technical and administrative work related to the Citys Strategic Energy Management Plan and coordinates the administration of related climate action and greenhouse gas (GHG) goals. The position participates with supervisors and/or managers and identifies evaluates and implements opportunities to increase corporate and community building efficiencies for the City and coordinates efforts to develop and execute strategic energy management plans to advance low carbon initiatives and reduce energy intensity. The Energy Management Coordinator acts as the project technical lead to City Departments and coordinates the oversight of projects programs initiatives and related grants and contracts and partners with organizations Fortis BC BC Hydro and other community partners and stakeholders to help the City reach their strategic goals related to energy consumption and conservation and GHG emissions and reductions.

Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Recommends interpretation and implementation of corporate policy relevant to the work advises and makes recommendations on changes to municipal energy bylaws and policies as requested and ensures work is performed in accordance to the best interests of the City and industry best practices
  • Reviews and monitors existing procedures standards and design criteria identifies deficiencies sets up operational and behavioral processes to optimize energy efficiency and recommends alternatives for improvement
  • Performs work in accordance to the best interests of the City and industry best practices and provides input and suggestions related to strategic planning decision making and initiatives as requested
  • Acts as the project technical lead related to energy consumption to City Departments and provides guidance related to energy consumption and savings with an emphasis on energy efficiency and GHG emissions and reductions
  • Explains policy and objectives to staff and the public prepares and updates quarterly reporting outlining progress against identified work plan including quantification of any associated energy savings and greenhouse gas emissions and reductions and performs administrative duties such as report writing record keeping and plan approval as required
  • Attends forums and related training events as requested and liaises with BC Hydro FortisBC and incentive providers regarding participation in incentive programs
  • The successful candidate for this position will have:
  • Diploma in Sustainability Engineering Energy Management Environmental Sciences or related discipline
  • Three (3) years recent related energy management or Project Management experience or an equivalent of combination of education training and experience
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence for the Province of British Columbia
