Job Summary

Lewis Central Community School District is looking for a Dean of Students to support grades 2-8 at Titan Hill Intermediate and Lewis Central Middle School starting the 2026-2027 school year.

The Dean of Students (Grades 28) plays a vital role in promoting a positive safe and orderly learning environment. This position focuses on student behavior intervention restorative practices and proactive support systems that encourage student growth. The Dean collaborates closely with building principals staff students and families to support behavioral expectations and ensure student success. Additional duties may be assigned to support overall school operations.

Education Experience Knowledge & Characteristics Desired
  • Bachelors degree in Education or a related field required.
  • Masters degree in Educational Leadership or a related field preferred.
  • 35 years of experience working with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Valid Iowa Administrative License preferred.
  • Knowledge of behavior management restorative practices and student support systems.
  • Strong communication organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students staff and families.
  • Calm solutions-oriented and effective under pressure.
  • Student-centered and relationship-driven.

Salary & Benefits Offered

Salary:Compensation is commensurate with education and experience.

Benefits:Eligible for the districts full benefits package including single and family health and dental insurance. The district provides a life insurance policy at no cost to the employee. Employees may elect supplemental plans such as vision and accident/critical illness insurance. All staff are automatically enrolled in the Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS) on the first day of employment. The district contributes 9.44% of wages; employees contribute 6.29%.

Paid Leaves/Holidays: This position includes paid sick leave and paid personal leave. Seven paid holidays are provided: Labor Day Thanksgiving Day the day after Thanksgiving Christmas Day New Years Day Good Friday and Memorial Day.

Job Title: Dean of Students (Grades 28)

Summary

Responsible for supporting positive student behavior intervention restorative practices and proactive support systems across two school buildings collaborating with principals staff and families to ensure a positive safe and orderly learning environment. Assists with building operations student supervision and implementation of climate and culture initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis.
  • Support behavior intervention efforts for students in grades 2-8.
  • Respond to and support the resolution of student discipline referrals.
  • Develop implement and monitor behavior intervention plans in collaboration with teachers counselors and support staff.
  • Utilize restorative practices and problem-solving approaches to address student misconduct.
  • Analyze behavioral data to identify trends and proactively implement supports.
  • Supervise students during high-traffic or high-need times (arrival dismissal lunch recess transitions).
  • Support re-entry plans following suspensions or significant disciplinary incidents.
  • Work closely with principals to ensure consistent implementation of building expectations and district policies.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians regarding behavioral concerns and interventions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide classroom management strategies and support.
  • Participate in MTSS/behavioral support meetings and other student support teams.
  • Coordinate with school counselors special education staff and other service providers to ensure comprehensive student support.
  • Support implementation of PBIS or other positive school climate initiatives.
  • Help foster a culture of respect accountability and belonging.
  • Provide professional development or coaching to staff related to behavior systems and classroom management.
  • Assist in crisis response as needed.
  • Support and participate in Building Leadership Team meetings as directed.
  • Assist principals with supervision student safety protocols and daily building operations.
  • Support scheduling supervision plans and other administrative tasks as assigned.
  • Serve as an administrative designee when requested by the principal.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support building and district needs.

Education and/or Experience
A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position does not directly supervise staff but may provide guidance to teachers paraeducators and support staff regarding behavior intervention systems.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and address student situations using sound judgment. Ability to interpret and implement district policies behavior frameworks and restorative procedures. Able to adapt when faced with unexpected student or building needs.

Computer Skills
Ability to use student information systems discipline tracking software email spreadsheets and other district digital tools. Comfort with accessing and analyzing student data to support interventions.
