The Principal is responsible for administering and supervising the total school program and providing educational leadership for the students and staff members consistent with the educational goals of the community. The Principal should analyze the educational needs of students teachers and the community and develop plans to implement programs responsive to these needs. He/she should allocate resources equitably and encourage staff and community initiative/involvement in the development of instructional programs. Finally the Principal should foster a school environment favorable to openness of inquiry and develop an atmosphere of acceptance and respect for individual and group differences in values religion race language and social background. Duties and Responsibilities: Analyze share and use school and student achievement data to develop and implement the school improvement plan. Implement procedures to assess program effectiveness. Monitor curriculum implementation to ensure that the appropriate content and sequence are followed. Cooperate with the Central Administration to continually evaluate improve and implement curriculum. Observe all School Committee Policies and School Department Regulations and Procedures and be responsible for the implementation and observance of same by the schools staff and students. Be knowledgeable of the General Laws of the Commonwealth pertaining to the public schools and enforce such laws. Be responsible for the proper maintenance of accurate records. Subject to the approval of the Superintendent assume responsibility for all matters relating to the supervision and oversight of building staff including but not limited to evaluation hiring discipline discharge and assignment of personnel including non-teaching personnel. Orient new faculty/staff and substitute faculty/staff to school practices. Manage operate and evaluate educational programs and services in the school. Provide leadership for the curriculum and instructional programs of the school. Develop short and long-range plans for the improvement of curriculum and instruction. Implement and support all special programs within the school. Establish and administer duty rosters and schedules for teachers and other building personnel. Determine staff needs and make recommendations to the Superintendent. Cooperate with the Central Administration in matters relating to budget and personnel. Prepare budget estimates and final budgets for the school within a system-wide context. Approve submit and track requisitions for building expenditures. Properly manage school funds. Supervise the operation management and maintenance of the school facilities and grounds. Maintain proper discipline of students and enforce the Student Handbook in a fair and equitable manner. Supervise student activities. Provide for reasonable safety precautions for students going to from and within school. Assign pupils to proper grades. Advise Central Administration on matters of enrollment and staffing. Act as Co-chair of the School Council and implement all appropriate state and local policies and regulations regarding School Councils. Work closely and cooperate with the PTA/PTO. Present and interpret school goals and policies effectively to teachers students parents and the community. Present the needs and concerns of the teachers and students to Central Administration and to the community. Develop and encourage solid community partnerships and utilize community resources. Assume responsibility for organizing and scheduling appropriate parent meetings. Keep the Superintendent abreast of issues concerns and incidents which occur at the school. Present recommendations for action by the School Committee to the Superintendent. Attend relevant conferences and workshops. Attend School Committee meetings when requested by the Superintendent. Attend all school functions which require the presence of the Principal. Recognize and welcome appropriate parent involvement in the school and foster strong home-school connections. Responsible for planning and ensuring that all necessary steps are taken for the proper opening and closing of school. Work closely with other Principals Directors and Central Administration as a participating and collaborative member of the Administrative Team. Carry out requests from the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents. Perform any other tasks and assume other such responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
