The Minnesota Star Tribune offers an 18-week fall software engineering internship with our Product Engineering this role youll have the opportunity to learn how we build and maintain the digital products that power our award-winning news platform.

This internship is ideal for someone who is early in their software engineering journey and eager to gain real-world experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment. Youll work alongside experienced engineers and have opportunities to contribute to both internal and external tools.

Interns will work 20 hours per week for 18 weeks between August and December at an hourly rate of $26.

What youll do:

Learn to build and maintain software with support from your team
Assist with small frontend or backend tasks using TypeScript and frameworks like React or NextJS
Collaborate with designers product managers and engineers to understand and implement features
Participate in team activities such as standups sprint planning and code reviews
Gain exposure to how we deploy and support production systems

What were looking for:

College sophomore junior senior graduate student or recent graduate
Some experience with coding either through coursework personal projects or previous internships
Interest in web development and modern frameworks like React NextJS NestJS or similar
Familiarity with JavaScript Typescript or similar languages
Curiosity willingness to learn and the ability to ask good questions

Nice to haves (but not required):

Basic understanding of Git Github and version control tools
Exposure to backend technologies or APIs
Exposure to Typescript is a plus
Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS or deployment concepts

This internship is designed for learning and growth. You dont need to know everythingwere here to help you develop the skills you need to succeed as an engineer.
