StFX is a top ranked Canadian university and we are seeking a Maintenance Manager to be part of the team at Facilities Management. Reporting to the Director Facilities Management the successful candidate must possess excellent communication skills and be able organize and develop a high functioning department.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage in the planning and supervision of general maintenance repair renovation and modification of University campus buildings equipment systems and grounds.
  • Lead and advise the five maintenance supervisors in resolution of personnel issues union contract issues and labour management issues.
  • Accountable for managing a department of approximately 40 staff (including trades and grounds) 45 buildings 1.8 million gsf and 110 acres. and a $4 million annual budget.
  • Responsible for maintenance financial planning and budgetary reporting to the director.
  • Evaluate project requests for merit and priority define scope of work and estimate project costs plan schedule and execute work.
  • Experience with managing Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) including an up to inventory of University assets.
  • In conjunction with the OH&S office develop and implement plans policies and procedures to provide effective efficient and safe methods of operations.
  • Develop and maintain training curriculum for supervisors and unionized staff.
  • In conjunction with Procurement Services conduct contract negotiations for maintenance service contracts.
  • Understand and ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations building and fire codes and safety requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining up to date Operations & Maintenance documents including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures among others.
  • Responsible for conducting and documenting Root Cause Analysis for operational failures (e.g. asset breakdown power outages etc.).
  • Manage facilities related projects as assigned by the Director.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary training in Engineering Technologist Trades Business Administration or related field.
  • Preference experience in the operation maintenance repair scheduling management and administration of facilities or physical plant required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively utilizing interpersonal skills to maintain effective relationships with other department staff faculty students and public.
  • Experience with budgeting financial and personnel administration in a unionized environment required.
  • Proven ability to work independently demonstrate initiative and be a self-starter.
