The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution a Diagnostic Processing Center located in Vanceboro NC with a population of 850 offenders and approximately 360 staff. This position provides supervision of subordinate staff. Conducts shift line-up makes shift assignments and inspects all personnel to determine if they are physically and mentally capable of assuming an assigned post. Completes reviews and maintains time reports duty rosters leave schedules performance evaluations and administrative forms. Accounts for persons and funds and ensures that all assigned equipment is operationally ready. Identifies training needs and coordinates delivery of training to subordinate staff.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Documented supervisory skills in a prison facility
Knowledge of facility operations
Knowledge of Prisons policy and procedures
Documented report writing skills
The Prisons Eastern Region prefers candidates with no less than 2 years work experience as a Correctional Sergeant
Minimum Education and Experience

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years six months of experience as a Correctional Sergeant or two years of experience as a Correctional Sergeant II; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Must be eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.EEO Statement
