The Company: GIA is the worlds foremost authority in gemology. An independent nonprofit organization GIA protects the public trust in gems and jewelry by providing the education research and standards that consumers and the jewelry industry rely on to make informed purchase decisions.

Job Summary:

Responsible for accurate data collection and precise inscriptions for stones using gemological devices and ensuring consistent high quality gemological reports are being delivered to clients in accordance with GIA standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform any of the following or other duties as assigned to meet quality and production goals:

  • Clean and prepare each stone forsubsequentprocessesin accordance withGIA procedures

  • Use tweezers and stoneholders to handle stones

  • Operate gemological devices to measure stones and collect data

  • Operate laser inscription device to perform requested inscription services

  • Prepare gemological reports after requested services have been completed by proofreading folding

  • and packaging in accordance with GIA procedures

  • Perform ad hoc duties from various departments as daily needs arise

  • May use a microscope

Complexity:

  • Learn and follow defined procedures/guidelines to perform job; complete tasks through application of detailed procedural knowledge

  • Use judgement to select appropriate action from defined procedures/guidelines; seek help from experienced staff and/or management for troubleshooting non-routine issues

  • Understand that GIA reputation is impacted if procedures arent followed and mistakes are made

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

  • Language skills: ability to read comprehend and follow standard procedures or instruction in local language (proficiency in reading writing and speaking in English required)

  • Communication skills: communicate professionally (communicate respectfully listen articulate/explain issues use professional tone know when to email vs call etc.)

  • Interpersonal skills: creates positive interactions with colleagues; actively communicates with others in a timely & professional manner; maintains good working relationship with others and peers with a team-oriented mind set.

  • Ability to share knowledge with others to enhance collaboration

  • Problem Solving: identifies basic problems and fixes or escalates as required; uses fact finding to determine the best approach to solve problems; applies basic analytical thinking to clarify issues and propose solutions with sound judgement and decision-making abilities

  • Computer skills: Basic knowledge of MS Office (Excel Word PowerPoint)

  • Detail-oriented/Ability to focus and complete tasks assigned in a timely manner

  • Ability to multi-task prioritize and manage time effectively

  • Ability to learn understand and follow functional department Standard Operating Procedures

  • Ability to learn and use basic office equipment

  • Maintains & fosters sensitivity and respect for cultural diversity

  • Able to keep focused while performing repetitive tasks

  • Ability to work both independently (manages workload independently) and in a team environment

Supervision / Autonomy / Authority:

  • Work under general supervision with instructions on day-to-day tasks.

  • Work under direct supervision with limited instruction on routine tasks.

  • Follow specific instruction when learning new tasks.

Education / Training / Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED): or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • One year working experience in a structured and self-directed environment preferred

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • The employee is occasionally required to talk and converse on a one-to-one basis; the employee is occasionally

  • required to listen and hear verbal conversations and commands

  • While performing the duties of this job the employee may be constantly seated performing repetitive tasks

  • throughout the day

  • The employeeis required touse pinch grip and repetitive fine finger and hand motions throughout the day.

  • The employeeis required toreach forward constantly and occasionally upward and downward with hands and

  • walking lifting and/or moving objects that weigh less than 10 lbs and infrequently may have to

  • move objects up to 25 lbs.

  • The employee will occasionally be required to operate machinery that generates high volume noise.

  • The employee is required to stand and walk short distances infrequently

  • The employee is required to be able to work in a team environment and adhere to a schedule with structured breaks

Pay Rate: $20.75 per hour
