Job Summary
Basic Function
HF Sinclair in Artesia NM is seeking a Turnaround Superintendent. This posiition is responsible for planning coordinating and executing major turnaround events and minor shutdowns. This role ensures safe efficient and cost-effective execution of turnaround activities in alignment with corporate standards site strategy and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties
- Plans and executes major turnarounds and other minor shutdowns
- Plans and executes capital projects
- Provides maintenance and equipment reports
- Manages Maintenance Department in major turnarounds or minor shutdowns mode including scheduling procedures materials contractors equipment union issues personnel issues safety issues and planning
- Estimates plans schedules and executes turnarounds from the planning stages through completion
- Develops works scopes
- Reports project status to management on a regular basis
- Oversees the quality of work safety environmental soundness and overall performance of the entire workforce in the turnaround organization
Experience
A minimum of ten years of industrial maintenance experience and depending on assignment with at least five years of turnaround execution supervision are required.
Education Level
A minimum of a Bachelors Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.
Required Skills
Ability to lead and direct a large work force for the execution of a major project or turnaround. Strong interpersonal and decision making skills and ability to build technical and operational capability. Good spreadsheet database and word processing applications knowledge negotiating time-management and organizational skills. Ability to communicate effectively with others both written and verbal communication and influence multiple operations. Advanced reading and writing with the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations. PREFERRED SKILLS: A significant amount of experience in the energy industry and special training in project management is preferred.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility
Responsible for the supervision of approximately two to four direct reports and during turnarounds up to ten direct reports.
Work Conditions
Office based with up to 10% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery warehouse/plant environment out-of-doors environment and driver based environment including but not limited to chemicals pressure vessels tanks rotating equipment and working in confined spaces. Subject to all temperatures weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements
Job conditions require standing walking sitting twisting stooping crouching kneeling talking or hearing making visual inspections making precise finger and hand movements reaching or grasping lifting and/or carrying up to 30lbs pushing and/or pulling up to 30lbs climbing up to 200ft wearing personal protective equipment (beards not permitted) perceiving color differences ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential.
