Requirements

Your main day-to-day responsibilities will be:

  • Identifyingdevelopingand using best practices and standards to design services consistent with the rest of government
  • Advocating for users and understanding user needs to design simpleeffectiveand accessible services
  • Creating prototypes and concepts to communicate and test ideas with users and improving with evidence
  • Experienced with the GDS/ style guide and service design standard
  • Mapping user journeysprocessesand visualising design problems
  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team by sharing design work andparticipatingin research

You will also be expected to carry out the following day to day activities:

  • Advocating for user-centred design and being an active part of the Design community within Methods and across government to share ideas best practices and proactively help and support each other
  • Take responsibility for your own learning and development and seek opportunities to improve your knowledge and experience
  • UX project delivery support and guidance
  • Coaching and mentoring of graduates or those in training programs
  • Upskilling team members and those directly on the same project
  • Support training and development plans with Head of UXD and other senior UXDs
  • Support Communities of practice running and/or organising these asrequired
  • Supporting the continued development of the UXD team culture
  • Supporting and developing career progression opportunities
  • Organising and/or running team retros designcritsand other meetings
  • Support permanent staff hiring whenrequired

Essential Skills

Youllhave a demonstrable passion for user experience design with the following skills or proven experience in:

  • Talking about design and ideas in a way that other people understand
  • Understanding how the internet works and the technology constraints that may need to be considered in design
  • Using your extensive knowledge of visual and interaction design to create usableaccessibleand responsive user interfaces
  • Running workshopsparticipatingindiscussionsandassistingin the facilitation of the design of the service through collaboration with other professions
  • Understanding user needsparticipatingin researchactivitiesand interpreting user research to inform design
  • Sketching concept creation and designing prototypes atdifferent levelsof fidelity
  • Working in an agile environment
  • Coding interactive prototypes using HTMLCSSand JavaScript
  • Designing for users with access needs
