This position is located within a Title III funded grant program Wailau Ola Pathway (WOP) in the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Hawaii - West Oahu campus. Position serves as a key member of the project team who works collaboratively with others to design and deliver educational experiences aimed to foster awareness of college opportunities encourage entry to post-secondary education promote attainment of educational objectives facilitate persistence towards graduation and realize academic the process of matriculation Native Hawaiian students faculty and staff will advance their linguistic cultural historical political socio-emotional and spiritual knowledge and skills


Duties and Responsibilities (*denotes Essential Functions):

  • *Assists in planning organizing coordinating and implementing of activities programs and services designed to increase college-going rates for Native Hawaiians.
  • *Designs implements and evaluates educational experiences opportunities and activities that foster Native Hawaiian individuals awareness of college opportunities and encourage their entry to post-secondary education.
  • *Crafts and delivers educational programs that promote Native Hawaiians confidence in their attainment of college education objectives and academic success using culturally relevant methods and approaches.
  • *Develops executes and evaluates support strategies and educational initiatives that facilitate Native Hawaiian students persistence towards degree completion and graduation.
  • *Facilitates gatherings for evaluation and input to improve initiatives and events that promote Native Hawaiian college entry persistence learning and success.
  • *Gathers and analyzes data to assess the effectiveness of planned educational experiences opportunities and activities aimed to promote Native Hawaiian student success.
  • *Prepares reports including on-line submissions and budget allocations involving student engagement and success initiatives.
  • *Creates and monitors tracking mechanisms to gather tally and summarize data on planned programs and other educational initiatives to evaluate the impact on Native Hawaiian student success.
  • *Creates and develops a series of hybrid dynamic transdisciplinary educational experiences workshops and developmental opportunities grounded in olelo nohona and ike Hawaii.
  • *Executes student programming to increase transfer rates on-time degree completion and use of olelo nohona and ike Hawaii.
  • Executes student programming for transfer students who are also parents caregivers and full-time workers.
  • Operates and monitors facilities and services dedicated to promoting Native Hawaiian wellness and healthy lifestyles maintaining the condition of assigned equipment and facilities.
  • Works with others to develop interpret implement and revise as needed policies and operational procedures governing Native Hawaiian success educational activities programs services.
  • Works with others to manage budgets for student events and student success initiatives that promote college enrollment engagement and retention. This includes but is not limited to obtaining bids preparing cost estimates reconciling final bills and providing an event budget analysis and summary and maintaining ledgers and tracking expenses for assigned accounts to ensure fiscal accountability and viability.
  • Provides administrative skills and knowledge to include serving in absence of supervisor when requested.
  • Participates via institutional and/or personal membership in relevant professional associations appropriate to the position (e.g. Native Hawaiian Education Association Native Indian Education Association Council for Opportunity in Education National Association for Developmental Educators National Council on Student Development etc.).
  • Assumes other related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Public Administration or related field and one (1) year of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities forprovidingeducationalservicesorassistancetoindividualsinvolvingstudentsuccess co-curricular programming financial literacy administrative and operational support services Hawaiian Language student parent programming or other related student services program area; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of student success student support programs and services disadvantaged student learning and development grant program managementand/or operational technical support demonstrated byknowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
  3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with student success student academic success student retention and success group management or contemporary operational management.
  4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of student success student support programs and services student learning and development and/or grant program management.
  5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software.


Supplemental Minimum Qualifications

  1. FunctionalknowledgeoftransferstudentsexperiencesintheUniversity of Hawaii System.
  2. Functional knowledge of Hawaiian Language ImmersionProgramming.
  3. Experience in working with University of Hawaii CommunityColleges.
  4. Experience in engaging with students and their families through college transfer workshops.
  5. Experience in working with early childhood children and their student parents.
  6. Experience in financial literacyprogramming.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Experience with grant reporting mentoring students and planning student activities.
  2. Experience working with Native Hawaiian serving organizations.
  3. Extensive knowledge of community secondary and post-secondary systems.
  4. Experience working with Native Hawaiian students in highereducation.
  5. Experience in providing direct services to communities in West Oahu.
