Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham ( UAB ) Heersink School of Medicine ( HSOM ) is launching a major strategic initiative in implementation science to build upon a robust extramural research portfolio across disease areas. Recruitment is for tenured tenure-track and non-tenure-earning faculty at all ranks and includes academic appointment in one or more of 27 academic departments across the HSOM many of which rank in the top 10 nationally in NIH funding for public institutions. All applications will be considered but priority will be given to those with established research programs focused on: the prevention diagnosis and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases (e.g. diabetes obesity hypertension) other chronic diseases (e.g. chronic kidney disease chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) infectious diseases (e.g. HIV sexually transmitted infections) womens health (e.g. maternal-child health) global health mental health (e.g. addiction substance use disorders depression) cancer surgical healthcare delivery physical medicine and rehabilitation and Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders. Alabama is the domestic epicenter of chronic disease. For over 50 years UAB has been a leader in biomedical research discovery to advance the health of the state region country and world. Driven by an intensely collaborative and entrepreneurial character UAB is one of the leading economic engines of the State with a statewide economic impact exceeding $12 billion annually. Building upon a strong foundation and vibrant research community at our academic medical center the HSOM is committed to identifying investigators with mission-aligned research programs that leverage implementation and/or dissemination science to generate scholarship that translates evidence-based practices into routine care and ultimately enhances individual and population health across our state and around the globe. Investigators with ongoing and recent work at the interface of translating evidence-based interventions into clinical community or public health practice are encouraged to apply. The HSOM Health Across the Lifecourse ( HEAL ) one of four HSOM strategic research focus areas is well aligned with this strategic recruitment initiative. Successful applicants will join one of the strongest clinical and population health research environments in the country including a rapidly growing collaborative community of implementation scientists. Heersink Institute for Biomedical Innovation. The scientists recruited through this initiative are expected to build upon and expand outstanding independent research programs. They will work independently and collaboratively to undertake innovative scientific discoveries produce scientifically impactful work grow extramural funding engage in and promote research training of learners at all levels and support the critical service missions of the University in delivering and improving health care.
