Job Description:

Laboratory Assistant (Permanent - Part time)

Permanent Part Time (Mon Tues Wed participate in weekend roster)

About the Role
You will work as part of the Microbiology team to assist in the achievement of the teams overall goal to produce accurate high quality and timely reports

• Process specimens in accordance with laboratory methods to ensure accurate timely and quality results
• Loading and maintenance of the instruments
• Despatch and storage of serology specimens
• Preparation of reagents
• Autoclaving of waste.

Classification for this role is IV9 ($65754.00 per annum pro rata)

Your Contribution

• Qualification of VCE including Mathematics and Biological Sciences electives
• Basic knowledge of Microbiology
• Ability to work as part of a team
• Good communication skills
• Experience with automated equipment (Atellica Bactec Vitek)
• Current National criminal history check or willing to obtain.

About Microbiology
St. Vincents Pathology is an established Approved Pathology Authority (APA) providing a broad range of pathology services to a number of teaching hospitals private hospitals specialists and general practitioners in the community.

The Microbiology laboratory is part of St Vincents Pathology and provides the following services:

• General bacteriology microscopy and culture
• Identification of organisms and antibiotic susceptibility testing
• Mycobacteriology
• Mycology
• Parasitology
• Infectious disease serology
• Molecular testing
• Environmental testing/ infection control surveillance
