Position Summary
Position Summary
The Elementary Art Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering an engaging visual arts program that nurtures creativity builds artistic skills and supports the overall academic and social development of students. This teacher creates developmentally appropriate lessons aligned to Oklahoma Academic Standards for Visual Arts introduces students to diverse artistic techniques and media and fosters a classroom environment where students feel safe to explore imagine and express themselves.
The Elementary Art Teacher plays an essential role within the school community by integrating art into broader learning experiences supporting school-wide intervention efforts as needed and contributing to a culture of joy belonging and academic excellence. Specials teachers at Santa Fe South are expected to independently develop lessons tailored to student needs while also collaborating with colleagues to reinforce core academic skills through creative and meaningful art instruction.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Develop and implement a well-rounded standards-aligned art curriculum that fosters fine motor skills artistic techniques creativity and critical thinking.
- Design engaging lessons that introduce students to a variety of media and methods including drawing painting collage sculpture mixed media and digital tools when available.
- Provide structured opportunities for students to explore self-expression take creative risks and reflect on their artistic growth.
- Integrate art with grade-level academic content when appropriate by collaborating with classroom teachers.
- Support school-wide academic outcomes by participating in intervention blocks or small-group support as needed.
Classroom Environment
- Maintain a safe organized and joyful art classroom that supports diverse learners and encourages creative exploration.
- Establish routines and behavioral expectations that promote respect responsibility and a positive learning atmosphere.
- Manage art materials and equipment responsibly ensuring appropriate use care and storage.
School-Wide Responsibilities
- Participate fully in the life of the school including arrival/dismissal lunch and/or recess supervision.
- Engage in professional development aligned with school goals including district training opportunities.
- Build strong professional relationships with students families and colleagues to support a positive school culture.
- Serve on committees support school events and contribute to the broader mission of Santa Fe South Charter Schools.
- Coordinate and host art shows exhibitions or displays to showcase student work throughout the year.
- Maintain consistent attendance punctuality and reliability in all assigned duties.
- Be flexible and willing to assist as broader school needs arise.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required.
- Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Art or Elementary Education is preferred.
- Experience teaching elementary art is a plus but not required.
- Demonstrated ability to design engaging developmentally appropriate lessons.
