BASIC FUNCTION:
Perform a variety of routine difficult duties requiring good communication skills including assisting others in the workplace to safeguard swimmers by preventing injury or loss of life enforce pool rules and regulations and restrict use of the pool and pool area to authorized persons.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:

E Essential Functions

  • Perform a variety of routine difficult duties requiring good communication skills including assisting others in the workplace to safeguard swimmers by preventing injury or loss of life enforce pool rules and regulations and restrict use of the pool and pool area to authorized persons. E
  • Supervise the pool area and students in the pool area at all times including when students are passing between class periods. E
  • Prevent unauthorized persons from entering the pool area. E
  • Enforce rules and regulations and maintain order in and around the pool to prevent injuries. E
  • Rescue persons in distress administer artificial respiration and perform first aid. E
  • Determine if pool is unsafe for instruction due to condition of water unsafe conditions or behavior by students deemed inappropriate. E
  • Maintain the pool and pool area in a safe clean and orderly condition. E
  • Assist in the preparation and return of supplies and equipment used during instruction. E
  • Perform related duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education training and/or experience equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year of relevant experience.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a current Advanced Life Saving Certificate issued by the American Red Cross or other recognized agency qualified to issue such certificates.
Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints Tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Routine difficult duties in supervision and operation of pool area
  • Requirements to maintain pool in a safe clean and orderly condition
  • Proper pool safety methods rescue techniques artificial respiration and first aid
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills using tact patience and courtesy
  • District policies regarding health safety and other procedures


ABILITY TO:
Perform a variety of routine difficult duties involving student activities in a pool area
Communicate clearly with students staff and others
Understand and follow oral and written directions and work cooperatively with others
Swim rescue persons in distress administer artificial respiration and first aid
Meet schedules and time lines and maintain a clean safe and orderly pool environment
Maintain routine records and use common pool equipment and supplies
Complete work accurately and as directed with many interruptions

WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
School pool environment; constant interruptions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; seeing to read a variety of documents; reaching overhead above the shoulders or horizontally or bending at the waist; dexterity of hands and fingers to assist others; swimming to provide rescue services; lifting heavy objects.
