Job Summary

Basic Function

Reporting to the Lab Manager and based out of Industrial Oils Unlimited LLC (IOU) located in Tulsa Oklahoma the Laboratory Technician role is responsible for executing the company lubricant formulary strategy through quality control. This includes performing laboratory tests to determine physical and chemical characteristics or a composition of a wide range of products including but not limited to automotive fluids (engine oils gear fluids transmission fluids etc.) natural gas engine oils industrial fluids soaps and cleaners etc. This is a safety-sensitive position.

Job Duties

  • Performs laboratory tests to determine physical and chemical characteristics or composition of a wide range of products including but not limited to automotive fluid (engine oils gear fluids transmission fluids etc.) natural gas engine oils industrial fluids soaps and cleaners etc.
  • Understands follows and enforces all established policies procedures and recognized practices
  • Performs all quality assurance tests and procedures in a precise and accurate manner
  • Uses good laboratory practices to accurately record and file all raw test data including pertinent paperwork
  • Communicates results and disposition to Manufacturing Shipping and Receiving
  • Promptly reports all problems regarding procedures specifications etc. to the Lab Manager or Formulation Chemist
  • Responsible for the care and maintenance of instruments and other lab equipment
  • Prepares lab standard test reagents
  • Performs standardization on reagents and equipment calibrations on a regular basis
  • Supports with non-routine work which includes equipment installation maintenance etc.
  • Works independently at times
  • Completes special projects assigned by Lab Manager in a timely manner
  • Maintains a clean safe and orderly work environment
  • Maintains sample retain storage and organization
  • Practices safe handling techniques with hazardous chemicals
  • Other duties as assigned by management team

Experience

A minimum of six months of related material testing experience is required. Experience in a laboratory setting preferred. Experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.

Education

H.S. Diploma or equivalent required

Bachelors degree in science chemistry or a related field preferred.

Required Skills

Basic mechanical ability and understanding of operational principles of assigned areas testing instruments. Basic ability to perform routine tests daily. Ability to effectively communicate with others both written and verbal communication and organizational skills. Ability to complete all required training. Depending on location elementary algebra and proficiency with spreadsheet and word-processing software applications. Basic reading and writing skills ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Familiarity with laboratory methods and equipment for running tests preferred. Basic computer skills including knowledge of presentation and e-mail software applications preferred.

None

Work Conditions

Office-based warehouse/plant environment with minimal travel required. Subject to all temperatures weather and varying road conditions. May be required to work flexible hours including overtime when needed.

Job conditions require standing walking sitting twisting stooping crouching kneeling talking or hearing making visual inspections making precise hand and finger movements reaching or grasping lifting and/or carrying up to 50lbs pushing and/or pulling up to 50lbs and perceiving color difference. Job conditions may require wearing personal protective equipment.
