The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention protection and preparation as well as the care custody and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody healthcare and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work
This position is located at Craven Correctional Institution located in Vanceboro NC (Craven County). The facility is an adult male felon reception and diagnostic processing center which houses 850 offenders and employs 360 staff. This position provides support for the Programs Section with a variety of functions including records management composition of reports research data filing and public contact to include offender families working with the transfer coordinator and dealing with the general public. Clerical duties will include but are not limited to typing and tracking of offender records utilize office machines and equipment such as a computer and word processor fax machines copiers calculators and electronic typewriter. The position also gathers information through the use of the OPUS (Offender Population Unified System).Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Documented knowledge of clerical/secretarial skills
Documented knowledge in the use of office machines
Documented knowledge in computer skills using Microsoft Office
Preferred experience in effective communication skills and techniques both orally and written. The ability to interpret policies regulation and procedures. Extensive knowledge and editing skills with experience using Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook Email and OPUS (Offender Population Unified System).
Minimum Education and Experience
