Job Description:
Fairfield University School of Education and Human Development (SEHD) Counselor Education Department is excited to invite applications for a full-time Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice (non-tenure track) position beginning Fall 2026 pending budgetary Department offers two counseling tracks School Counseling (SC) and Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) at the masters level which are accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).
The Position:
The successful candidate will typically teach 44 advise students and participate in professional service at the school university state regional and national levels. Faculty in these programs teach addition candidates must demonstrate professional identity in counseling/counselor education through some of the following activities: (a) sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations (e.g. ACA ACES CSI AMHCA etc.) (b) relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g. licensed professional counselor licensed professional counselor-supervisor licensed chemical dependency counselor certified school counselor etc.) or licensure/certification eligible with a commitment to obtain within the first year of their academic appointment and (c) sustained professional engagement in areas of professional development and renewal activities professional service and advocacy in counseling and/or ongoing counseling practice.
Responsibilities
- Teach both CMHC and School counseling students.
- Provide program advisement and mentorship to students.
- Engage in faculty activities including service and advocacy efforts.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to implement departmental initiatives and support program coordination program evaluation curriculum development admissions and recruitment of a high-quality and diverse student body.
- Participate collegially in departmental school and university committees.
Minimum Requirements:
- Doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. ABDs with an established timeline to graduate within one year of employment will be considered.
- Evidence of effective teaching or teaching potential at the university level.
- Active and sustained memberships in professional counseling organizations.
- Relevant professional counseling credentials (e.g. licensed professional counselor certified school counselor national certified counselor etc.) or licensure/certification eligibility with a commitment to obtain within the first year of academic appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Earned doctoral degree in counseling/counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program.
- Experience teaching masters level counseling courses in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with CACREP standards and the accreditation process.
- School counseling certification and or LPC license (or eligibility) in Connecticut.
