  • Room Benefits:

  • All Halls except for : Receive a double room waiver contingent upon 2025-2026 budget approval.

  • : Individuals are assigned to a four-person suite; each person is assigned to a single-occupant bedroom within the suite. A waiver is granted to the single-occupancy bedroom within the suite.

  • Full waiver of each semesters fees for a meal plan as specified by the Department of Housing and Residence Life.

  • Stipend:

  • A stipend of $650 per semester for your first and second semester of service as a CDA. The stipend increases to $700 per semester after the second semester of service as a CDA. The value of this option is $1300 your first and second semester of service as a CDA and increases to $1400 after the second semester as a CDA.

Hours

Student can work a maximum of 20 hours per week total during the academic semesters.

Job Description

  • General Function and Scope of Responsibility

  • The position of a Community Development Assistant is a part-time student employment opportunity at the University of WisconsinStevens Point in the Department of Housing and Residence Life. A Community Development Assistant (CDA) is a student staff member who lives within the residence hall they are employed in. CDAs promote hall staff success through creativity design and collaboration in the residence halls ranging from 250-325 residents. They are responsible for attending training designing and creating materials for hall staff having educational conversations partnering with hall professional staff to promote student development and completing other administrative tasks. This position is part-time employment in conjunction with the employees full-time academic schedule. The accumulated duties of this position require the employee to work twenty (20) hours per week during each academic semester.

  • Duties and Responsibilities

  • Community Development

  • Collaborate with hall staff in developing materials strategies and supporting social and hall programs as specified by the Residence Hall Director (RHD)

  • Attend hall activities and events as specified by the Residence Hall Director (RHD)

  • Collaborate with hall staff in creating materials for community development efforts with things such as bulletin boards within the common spaces of the residence hall that are not Resident Assistant (RA) floor specific boards.

  • Facilitate educational conversations with residents around the Department of Housing and Residence Life community standards and policies

  • Assist hall staff model a wellness lifestyle and teach students about the community development model through creative efforts such as bulletin boards programs etc.

  • Encourage student ideas and student involvement throughout the residence hall

  • Administration

  • Maintain open and frequent communication with the RHD about programming plans and resident concerns

  • Complete necessary administrative tasks for hall staff programs (SPIN logistics marketing etc.)

  • Complete five (5) office hours a week for administrative desk responsibilities

  • Attend all weekly meetings scheduled by the RHD (one-on-ones staff meetings etc.)

  • Conduct monthly Health and Safety checks of residence hall rooms and report any issues/concerns to RHD

  • Student Leader Supervision and Development

  • Train co-supervise with RHD and schedule desk staff including Resident Assistants.

  • Plan and facilitate front desk staff meetings as needed to share information monitor processes and provide feedback on improvements

  • Provide co-advising support for hall Program Board teams in organizing and implementing events for students

  • Meet regularly with Program Board members to provide ongoing training discuss upcoming events provide direction and guidance and evaluate activities.

  • Participate openly and honestly in communication with the RHD other RAs and other designated staff

  • Participate actively in meetings trainings and other activities

  • Support the decisions of the Department of Housing and Residence Life the RHD and other staff

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding job-related information and relationships with staff

  • Convey accurate information related to decisions policies and actions of other staff

  • Additional responsibilities

  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the RHD to help meet the needs of your hall. These responsibilities constitute part of your employment agreement.

  • Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Cleary Act to include completion of required training and reporting of all crimes to the university.

  • As an employee of the university report witnessed or otherwise reported incidents of sexual assault to the Office of the Dean of Students (36.11(22)(c)))

  • Uphold FERPA (Family Education Rights and Privacy Act) and protect confidential information of students and their support systems.

  • Serve as a Responsible Employee as defined by Title IX and UWSP Policy 14.2 to report thorough and complete information about sexual harassment sexual assault dating violence domestic violence stalking and other gender-based discrimination.

  • Conditions of employment

  • Maintain the conditions of this position for the entire academic year of contract.

  • Must have lived in a residence hall or other communal living experience for at least two (2) semesters by the start of employment.

  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5. If your semester GPA is 1.50 or lower your contract may be rescinded.

  • Must be a full-time student enrolled in a minimum of twelve (12) credits each semester of employment.

  • Carry no more than sixteen (16) credits unless you receive prior approval from your RHD.

  • Must get approval from RHD before committing to any major extracurricular activities including officer positions and intercollegiate athletics. Some athletic and extracurricular program schedules work better than others while being a staff member. We try our best to accommodate individuals; however your staff position is expected to be the priority.

  • Be in good conduct standing with the university at the time the contract begins and have no further conduct incidents after the contract is signed. Prior university conduct records do not disqualify applicants but will be reviewed prior to employment. Employment will require a criminal background check.

  • Model positive behaviors appropriate to the university community and behave in a manner consistent with all the rules and regulations expected of all students and employees of UW- Stevens Point.

  • Must fulfill individual hall requirements including programming needs meetings and ongoing training set by the RHD.

  • Live in the residence hall assigned whenever the university is in session. Your hall assignment is subject to change each year of employment.

  • The department of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to reassign CDAs based on occupancy needs or hall structure changes at any time.

  • After two years in a community Housing and Residence Life requires Community Development Assistant to move to a new community style regardless of supervisor. This ensures that all CDAs continue to grow in their roles and will have more opportunities for professional development. This is applicable for positions as a Resident Assistant and Community Development Assistant in either/both roles.

  • Return to your residence hall prior to the spring semester (Approx. 5 days before semester begins) to participate in staff training programs assist in the orientation of students to the residence hall and be on-campus the weekend when hall opens.

  • Must be able to return by the date specified prior to re-opening after any break period.

Required Qualifications

Students applying for this position must pass a Criminal Background Check Misconduct Reference Check and Position of Trust with vulnerable populations check.

  • Available to work the full contracted date for the entire 2026-2027 academic year

  • Have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at the start of employment

  • Experience living in a residence hall for more than 2 semesters (or other related communal living).

  • Experience in the Department of Housing and Residence Life as a student leader within the residence halls (Program Board Desk Receptionist Resident Assistant Residence Hall Association etc.) for 2 semesters (summers included).

  • Enrolled as a full-time student at UW- Stevens Point (12 credit minimum)

  • Ability to think and create items creatively without minimizing messaging of items

Preferred Qualifications

  • Leadership experience (Coaching Executive Board Position Tutor General Member of a group etc.)

  • Experience educating individuals (health wellness academics life skills etc.)

  • Experience planning developing and/or implementing events

  • Experience completing administrative tasks

  • Experience working with diverse groups of people

Must be a current UWSP Student.
