The mission of Happy Mama Healthy Baby Alliance (HMHBA) is to promote high-quality family-centered evidence-based respectful maternity and newborn care and improved health outcomes for all childbearing persons and their babies with a color who too often in America experience poor birth outcomes such as maternal and infant death. Our mission is rooted in equity dignity and the belief that every birth deserves respect and every family deserves to thrive.

OUR GOAL

HMHBAs goal is to promote and work to improve the birth outcomes of all women birthing persons and their infants in all communities locally and globally. By building a supportive network for mothers fathers and newborns were laying the foundation for healthier communities and brighter futures through a Community Doula Program serving low-income families in Los Angeles County California.

Under the general guidance of the Program Coordinator and Program Director the Community Outreach Worker will conduct extensive outreach to recruit eligible low-income BIPOC individuals to participate in our Community Birth Doula Training and Postpartum Doula Trainings to Compton California residents and provide information and education regarding HMHBAs program services including prenatal care pregnancy breastfeeding childbirth options health care access and other relevantmaternal-infant health and wellness information as determined by Happy MamaHealthy Baby Alliance. The target audience are Compton/East Compton California residents who would like to receive scholarships to attend the doula trainings in March and May 2026 in South Los Angeles California under the Rising Communities Best Start grant. Information will be provided in both group presentation and interpersonal formatsand through social media. The Community Outreach Worker will be the representative for HMHBA at outreach events and meetings and conferences in-person and via online meetings.

This position is a part-time (4 hours/week) non-benefit eligible and grant-funded through June 30 2026 by Heluna Health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Partner with Program Coordinator and Program Director to provide outreach and recruitment for low-income BIPOC individuals who want to receive scholarships to become Certified Birth and Postpartum Doulas by participating in a 32-hour Birth Doula Training in March 2026 and a 22-Hour Postpartum Doula Training in May 2026 in South Los Angeles and virtually.
  • Conduct presentations and outreach and disseminate information on the trainings and doula support in general throughout Compton California and South Los Angeles California.
  • With assistance from Program Coordinator educate and inform potential doula training participants on applying for the scholarships to attend the trainings including support to help them complete the application online.
  • Knowledge of Compton California community agencies
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with local community organizations partnered providers community leaders and stakeholders with concern for perinatal health and wellness.
  • Attend community events and manage HMHBA tabling and outreach efforts.
  • Participate in online meetings to promote the Doula training opportunity.
  • Attend all staff meetings program meetings and trainings as required
  • Collaboratively work with colleagues to address daily needs and support each other both in the office and in the field
  • Other duties as assigned by the Program Coordinator or Program Director.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • 6-months experience as a Birth and Postpartum Doula working with pregnant women new mothers and infants.
  • Experienced and very comfortable with public speaking and giving presentations
  • Prior community outreach or engagement experience preferred

Certificates/Licenses/Clearances

  • Certified Birth Doula
  • Certified Postpartum Doula
  • A valid California drivers license proof of vehicle insurance and reliable transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Other Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Bilingual English/Spanish language skills preferable
  • Work flexible hours as needed including evenings and weekends 4 hours per week for a total of 16 hours per month.
  • Proficient computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently prioritize workload and complete tasks in timely and efficient manner under supervision of Program Coordinator.
  • Ability to demonstrate sensitivity addressing the needs of underserved community members from diverse communities in South Los Angeles.
  • Ability to engage in clear and concise communication regarding HMHBAs doula program.
  • Commitment to overall mission of HMHBA and Rising Communities/Best Start program goals.
