Job Summary
Job Description:
Responsible to:Director of Life Enrichment
Qualifications:
The Activities Assistant prefers to have 1 year of experience with elderly people living in long-term care settings and must have a genuine interest in connecting with the elders with activities the elders themselves find meaningful.
Summary of Job:
To provide an ongoing program of activities designed to meet in accordance with the comprehensive assessment the interests and the physical mental and psycho- social well being of each elder.
Physical Demand:
Good physical and mental health. Turning stooping bending and stretching to assist residents. Must be able to push wheelchairs and Geri-chairs to and from activities. Must be able to walk moderate distances and be able to handle being outdoors in hot/cold weather conditions for brief periods of time.
Special Demands:
Must have a genuine interest in geriatrics. Understanding patience and tact in dealing with residents families and visitors. Must have attention to detail and a skill in identifying opportunities for improvement and planning for improvement for each individual Elder.
Working Environment:
Sit stands and walks intermittently during working day. Subject to frequent interruptions. Works in well lighted and ventilated halls and rooms. May have to handle emergency situations.
Responsibilities and Assigned Tasks
- Responsible for working all scheduled days including holidays.
- Encourage elder participation in activities and document outcomes.
- Assist to carry out appropriate for elders who are bed bound and disoriented as part of the care plan and keep accurate records.
- Follow through with appropriate games and therapeutic activities group or individual which are designed to reduce stress loneliness and boredom.
- Obtain and help maintain necessary equipment and supplies and provide for their accessibility through organized storage.
Schedule : Wednesday through Friday 10am - 3:30pm
