Grid Connection Engineer
Renewable Energy Grid Connection Sydney
Our client is a leading global renewable energy producer delivering largescale solar wind and battery storage projects across multiple continents. With several gigawatts already operating or under construction in Australia and a longterm growth strategy backed by a major international asset manager they continue to expand their portfolio of generation and storage assets nationwide.
We are partnering with them to recruit a Connection Support Engineer joining a highly skilled Grid Connection Team and supporting the successful delivery compliance and performance of their operating assets and constructionphase projects.
The Opportunity
Working within the Grid Connection Team you will support the coordination of all activities related to network connection across construction projects operating generation assets and new developments. This role interfaces closely with asset management construction development teams the control room and external stakeholders including AEMO NSPs regulators consultants and EPC contractors.
You will play a key part in ensuring compliance with network rules managing connectionrelated processes supporting commissioning and testing activities and contributing to technical assessments for future developments.
Key Responsibilities
You will be involved in:
- Supporting Generator Performance Standard compliance monitoring across operating assets.
- Leading and supporting change processes under NER S5.2.2 and 5.3.9 including managing engineering due diligence packages with grid consultants.
- Managing the opening tracking and closure of noncompliances under the NER 4.15 process.
- Contributing to grid suitability assessments for new development projects including optimal sizing and connection feasibility.
- Supporting market registration energisation and commissioning activities for construction projects.
- Being physically present at the Canberra Control Room for commissioning and test events.
- Integrating commissioning and testing management into operational control planning.
- Weekly reporting on operational events and outages that may impact assets or construction activities.
- Investigations to support improved asset financial performance (for example FCAS reclassification).
- Supporting power system studies for new developments.
- Remaining up to date with industry and rule changes.
About You
You will be wellsuited to this role if you have:
- A recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Strong organisational analytical and communication skills with the ability to work under pressure.
- A reliable teamfocused and detailoriented approach to work.
- Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
- The ability to selfregulate and maintain a balanced approach to workload in a dynamic environment.
Highly regarded:
- Experience with power system modelling software (PSSE PSCAD PowerFactory).
- Experience with NEM or WEM registration testing and commissioning processes.
- Understanding of generator operations in the NEM/WEM (energy ancillary services nonmarket services).
- Working knowledge of interconnection processes with network service providers.
- Experience with commercial contracts related to transmission or distribution infrastructure.
