POSITION PURPOSE:
Supports the development implementation and coordination of innovative curriculum and instructional initiatives at selected magnet schools to increase the level of theme integration (design thinking creative arts STEM advanced studies) for students instructional staff and administration. Provides job-embedded professional learning to improve the quality of curriculum and instruction through the magnet theme. The position is grant funded and are expected to end September 30 2028; however grant funding is subject to renewal on an annual basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
- Extensive knowledge of K-12 standards adopted by the State of North Carolina;
- Extensive knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies curriculum design and assessment methodologies;
- Considerable knowledge of best practices to influence adult learning;
- Considerable knowledge of the implementation of curricula projects and planning;
- Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Word Excel and PowerPoint; Google Apps;
- Critical thinking and problemsolving skills;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information collaborative efforts and feedback;
- Ability to raise teachers consciousness and skillfulness around effective instruction;
- Ability to use multiple data sources for problem solving;
- Ability to set goals and develop long-range and short-range plans to achieve excellence in selected magnet school instructional programs;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff.
EDUCATION TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
- Five years of K-12 teaching experience and/or curriculum writing and implementation;
- Experience with planning and delivering professional training to adult learners.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educators license in Elementary or Secondary Education.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters Degree in Education Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership;
- Education or professional development in curriculum design writing and implementation;
- Education or professional development in design/inquiry/systems thinking and/or STEM-related (PBL) pedagogies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Aligns the mission resources and activities of the innovative curriculum and instructional pedagogies in selected magnet schools with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and/or Essential Standards and Wake County Public School Systems priorities for learning and teaching.
- Supports the implementation of themed-curricula and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students; demonstrates co-teaches or observes and offers feedback to instructional staff; provides guidance on differentiating instruction and selecting best strategies for learning; understands and can teach others how to integrate themed-based strategies in a variety of content areas.
- Supports implementation of state standards through well-designed curricula; participates in curriculum design in conjunction with OMCE Directors and staff ensuring student needs are met through the themed-based programs at the school level.
- Raises teachers consciousness and skillfulness around effective themed-based curricula and instructional strategies and increases the quality and effectiveness of curriculum and instruction by establishing a plan of action.
- Supports MSAP grant monitoring progress toward goals in conjunction with the MSAP Project Director.
- Has a deep understanding of curriculum/instructional strategies including data collection and analysis.
- Provides professional development addressing instructional theory practice and resources that promote learning and teaching.
- Fosters collaboration within the magnet school community to design deliver and assess instructional activities that promote learner competence and confidence with 21st century skills.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
This job operates in a professional office environment and has a noise level of mostly low to moderate. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers scanners and copiers. The position at times must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff students and the community. Work is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work requires driving automotive equipment. Requires regular travel to designated MSAP magnet schools within Wake County.
