Bronchoscopy Procedural Nurse:Job Description
Job Duties and Requirements:
a. Mandatory Education: Complete yearly mandatory education in MyJeff Hub.
b. Mandatory certification: Complete all continuing education to maintain credentials and BLS and ACLS certifications.
c. EPIC: Complete all assigned Epic Education
d. Maintain supply inventory: Order supplies submit purchase requests and maintain par levels. Count drugs and keep appropriate logs according to hospital policy.
e. Scheduling: Schedules patients for procedures. Organize scheduling with physician schedules to accommodate contaminated cases emergencies and routine operations. Make internal and external transportation arrangements.
f. Documentation and Charging: Charge for all supplies in the EMR and document in the procedure encounter.
g. Patient Education: Instructs patient pre and post-procedure to alleviate fears and answer questions.
h. Assist physician during the procedure: Set up and position the C-arm fluoroscopelabel and process specimens. Mix and administer medications as needed including narcotics. Monitor patient vital signs. Must be prep for cases in advance and adjust to real-time requests. Will follow universal precautions when there is the potential for human blood body fluid or tissue contact.
i. Post-procedure care: Closely monitor critical and noncritical patients after the procedure for evidence of complications such as pneumothorax or bleeding. Notify the physician and intervene accordingly. Provide a report to the next unit who will assume care for the patient.
j. Equipment Maintenance: Clean and maintain all equipment associated with the Bronchoscopy Suite. Prepare scopes for cleaning using the pre-clean method and clean scopes according to equipment specifications. Report equipment malfunctions and preventive maintenance schedules to the Biomedical Department.
k. Departmental Onboarding: Precept new hires to work independently in the Bronchoscopy suite.
l. Education: Presents and attends in-service programs and conferences regarding patient care and techniques associated with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. Trains all staff in procedures and techniques in the unit. Serves as a trainer for the train the trainer program.
m. Demonstrates accountability and collaborative practice with co-workers other disciplines and departments.
n. Works collaboratively with all hospital services to accomplish daily work and maintain an environment of excellence.
o. Identifies potential conflict situations and facilitates resolution using established communication channels.
