REQUIRED SKILLS
Working knowledge of vehicle operation and maintenance tire mounting balancing and replacement fuel dispensing washing vehicles etc. Skills in operating various machinery in repairing vehicles. Ability to locate problems and physically perform repairs. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. and complete daily paperwork. Ability to learn and use available technology including diagnostic devices. Ability to be self motivated to finish required daily tasks.
MINIMUM TRAINING
- Knowledge of procedures and requirements for CDL and School Bus License Training.
- Knowledge of the State School Bus Operational Procedures.
- Desire to continue training and classes as offered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ability to schedule maintenance on assigned vehicles which consists of 30-day inspections repairs and performing preventive maintenance.
- Interact with Drivers and Transportation Personnel to rectify bus concerns.
- Perform 30-day inspections on buses and activity buses which consists of 42 item safety inspections and complete the daily paperworklegibly.
- Repair defects found on 30-day inspections and driver sign in sheets.
- Respond to road calls as directed when a bus has problems along the route.
- Assists Supervisors with accidental occurrences such as crash scenes.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Must have the ability to obtain certification to become a Certified North Carolina School Bus 30-Day Inspector..
- Must have the ability to obtain a CDL with P and S endorsement.
- Must have the ability to obtain a Tanker Truck endorsement
- Ability to pass random drug tests
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED from regionally or nationally accredited institutions.
- Technical training in diesel equipment preferred.
- Appropriate North Carolina drivers license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force frequently up to 50 pounds of force often and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must be able to:
- walk lift reach stoop stand grasp balance climb kneel and crouch
- work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes noise vibrations job hazards and atmospheric conditions
- use visual acuity required for depth perception and color perception
- visually inspect small defects and/or small parts
- ability to handle large truck tires to remove from rims install new tires inflate tires mount and balance tires on large vehicles
- use a variety of electronic diagnostic devices
- assemble or fabricate parts at or within arms length
- operate machinery motor vehicles hand tools and job specific equipment and tools
- determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
- observe general surroundings and activities
- hear sufficiently to accurately perceive information at normally spoken word levels
- use communication by means of spoken word to express or exchange ideas
- safely work in situations of exposure to bloodborne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment
