DescriptionReporting to the Vice President and Director of Athletics and working regularly with the sport administrator the Head Coach will be responsible for the overall administration of the Mens and Womens Swim and Triathlon programs. It is his/her responsibility to foster and encourage the goals of student-athletes stress the elements of sportsmanship and fair play and do so within the mission of Barton College Conference Carolinas and the NCAA. The mission of Barton Athletics is to provide a positive student-athlete experience support the mission and business model of the College and compete for championships.
Essential Functions:
- To conduct the program according to all College Conference Carolinas and NCAA rules regulations guidelines and standards.
- To provide leadership and promote a student-athlete experience that is safe welcoming and nurturing.
- To prepare and operate within the allocated budget and follow purchasing and spending guidelines as set by the College.
- To successfully pass the annual NCAA Division II Coaches Education Modules.
- To recruit quality student-athletes and meet annual roster expectations. To promote resilience and retention.
- To award athletic scholarship equivalencies in accordance with department policies.
- To schedule conduct and supervise all team practice sessions.
- To complete competition schedules including travel and facility arrangements.
- To assist with student-athlete eligibility certification and completion of pre-participation forms and medical exams
- To foster a culture of compliance within the team and report any NCAA rules violations injuries or accidents involving student-athletes and misconduct of student- athletes.
- To provide necessary information to the sport administrator or Compliance Office as required.
- To work communicate and develop rapport with students parents alumni faculty/staff and administration and to engage in public relations activities and to promote Barton College and the sport program in a positive manner.
- To market and promote the swim and triathlon programs including collaborating with the Vice President and Director of Athletics and Advancement Office to generate external funding.
Other Areas:
To perform any additional duties that may be assigned by the Vice President and Director of Athletics.
QualificationsDesired Education Skills and Experience:
Masters preferred; Bachelors required. Collegiate swimming experience and coaching experience preferred. Current CPR/AED and Lifeguarding certification preferred or willingness to gain certification immediately upon hire. Motivation to obtain other certifications as needed (i.e. CPO). Possession of or ability to obtain a valid North Carolina Drivers license. Experience and knowledge writing a season long training plan with the ability to improve individual techniques/skills and race strategy. Experience and knowledge of NCAA legislation. Strong oral and written skills; excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills and adequate computer skills. High ethical standards and ability to work with a diverse faculty staff students and other publics. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
