Overview
The Touro University Graduate School of Jewish Studies is seeking candidates for a full-time Associate or Full Professor of Jewish Studies with a specialization in the Holocaust and in Eastern European Jewish History. Ideal candidates will already have made a significant contribution to the field as evidenced by publications and lectures at academic conferences and demonstrate promise of an ongoing and very active research program. Candidates will also possess excellent teaching skills and the ability to mentor doctoral level research and doctoral dissertations.
Faculty carry a12creditworkload perten-month long academic yearandare expected to teach advisestudentsand engage in load may be adjusted according to responsibility of faculty for directing dissertations of also expected to activelycontributeto Graduate School programs and to actively participate in schooland university-wide their scholarship and collegial networks faculty are expected to enhance the national and international reputation of the Graduate School of Jewish Studies.
The mission of theGraduate School of Jewish Studies is to educate the next generation of scholars and educators in the field of Jewish studies andto train knowledgeable and highly skilledJewish communal professionals. TheSchooloffers masters-level degrees with concentrations in Jewish history and Jewish education;the Ph.D. degree in Jewish history;and a joint Advanced Certificate in the management of non-profit institutions with Touro UniversityGraduate School of courses are taught either hybrid or exclusively via Zoom so students in the program hail from around the world.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Teaching hybrid courses as assigned by the Dean
- Service to the Department University and Community
- Significant Research/Scholarship including publications academic conferences and where possible funded research
- Academic advisement
- Supervise masters theses and doctoral dissertations
- Participate in standing and ad-hoc committees
- Participate in program events such as conferences or graduation
- Build strengthenand support community relations
Qualifications
Education &Experience
- Applicants must have an earned Ph.D with specializations in Holocaust Studies and Eastern European Jewish History
- Strong command of languages relevant to the candidates research including Yiddish
- Research and teaching experience commensurate with an appointment at the associate or full professor level
- Experience guiding theses and dissertations preferred
- Experience teaching hybrid courses
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in communication (written and verbal) required
- Experience with online learning platforms including Banner Canvas & Zoom required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word Excel PowerPoint & Outlook required
- Strong attention to details required
- Effectively manage and organize daily tasks independently and with a team while balancing multiple projects and meeting deadlines required
- Accuracy and productivity in completing tasks required
- Customer service and team orientated required
- A high degree of interpersonal competency: professionalism diplomacy judgement and discretion required
- Demonstrated ability to develop positive and cooperative relationships with students faculty and colleagues required
- Ability to solve complex problems and meet deadlines required
- Exceptional analytical problem solving skills collaboration and matrix management skills required
