The School of Lawhas an outstanding opportunity for aLead Career Counselor Private Sectorto join their team.

The Lead Career Counselor Private Sector is a key contributor to the UW School of Laws Center for Career Development. The Lead Career Counselor supports programs enabling private sector hiring such as On Campus Interviewing (OCI); advancing external engagement models to deliver law firm and corporate law student career opportunities; developing external relationships through programmatic efforts delivering law firm and corporate support for fellowship programs; and 1:1 student career counseling professional development and academic advising. The role works holistically with external and internal stakeholders and students to deliver customized advice strategy and support during law school as graduates enter the work force and in subsequent career transitions. This position reports to the Executive Director Private Sector & Judiciary Center for Career Development.

This position provides key support to ensure that students have a positive experience at UW Law and as they seek to enter the legal profession. This requires a comprehensive understanding of legal education and the legal market. The Center for Career Development works closely with members of the law school community including faculty staff students and alumni to develop support and coordinate student-focused activities that contribute to the Offices turn this roles focus on external engagement requires the ability to build and maintain successful relationships with law firms corporate and in-house stakeholders.

Duties

Advising and Counseling (50%)

  • Coach and advise current law and graduate students about potential career paths and academic options how to create effective job application materials and how to develop strong networking and interviewing skills.

  • Manage and implement tasks related to the oversight of career services counseling and engagement with the employer community.

  • Partner with faculty staff students alumni and members of the community to foster collaborations and initiatives for JD and graduate students.

  • In collaboration with CCD team members faculty staff alumni and external stakeholders support opportunities for student engagement in the legal community such as bar activities alumni events and/or community service that contribute to their professional development.

Events & Programs (25%)

  • Support law firm hiring programs with particular emphasis on On Campus Interviewing (OCI) and fellowships.

  • Plan and support hosting UW Law events including identification and invitation to employers marketing and communications event management student engagement among others.

  • Contribute to student learning materials to drive awareness and understanding of hiring pathways tools to succeed in private sector job placements and opportunities available.

  • Partner with the other departments and UW Law leaders in developing student focused activities.

Data & Technology (15%)

  • Assist in development implementation and management of the reporting of graduate employment data including implementation and oversight of data tools and resources including the NALP Employment Report and Salary Survey and ABA Employment Protocols under the direction of the Associate Dean and Executive Director Private Sector & Judiciary

  • Advance the Center for Career Developments data insights through accurate and timely collection of student data (as assigned) and the proficient and regular use of 12Twenty and other technology tools.

  • Act as the lead in developing updating and managing all internal and external Center for Career Development resources including websites SharePoints and others.

Other Duties (10%)

  • Collaborate with - and report on efforts to - internal stakeholders including the Associate Dean Center for Career Development the Dean of the Law School and other functions enabling student development and growth.

  • Support the mission strategic goals and core values of the Center for Career Development and UW Law.

  • Perform other related duties as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree.

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience (or 2 years with J.D.) in any of the following: law firm public agency non-profit organization educational institution professional recruiting or functional equivalent.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements such as a license/certification/registration.

Additional Qualifications

  • Experience providing academic and/or career counseling.

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills interpersonal skills and presentation skills.

  • Sensitivity and experience successfully working across a wide variety of stakeholders.

  • Ability and willingness to adjust to changing priorities on very short notice as well as the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries.

  • Strong technology skills including but not limited to the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion.

Desired

  • Juris Doctor

  • Knowledge of legal industry hiring and professionalism standards and practices

  • Demonstrated ability to forge new and cultivate existing relationships with law firms corporate legal professionals and/or public interest organizations.

  • Prior experience in compiling and synthesizing law school career information to deliver accurate and fulsome statistical reporting including knowledge of and proficiency with 12Twenty and NALP and ABA employment reporting requirements.

  • Strong professional network within the legal community.

  • Experience with program management developing communications and marketing materials event management and budgeting.

  • Prior experience working one-to-one or one-to-few with higher education students and alumni.

  • Familiarity with the administrative structure of a large university facilitation and/or teaching experience.

Pay Range Minimum:

$80268.00 annual

$90000.00 annual
