POSITION SUMMARY
Under the coordination of the Assistant Director of Gallery & Exhibitions the part-time Exhibitions Coordinator supports preparation and installation of exhibitions. This position also coordinates the student exhibition program and works with student workers and volunteers on the wider public programs team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Exhibition Preparation & Installation
Oversees hanging the gallery handling & installing artwork in gallery spaces in PNCA and with community partners such as galleries community-based organizations.
Creates exhibition plans in consultation with Assistant Director.
Transports and handles art work on loan.
Ensures installation adheres to the gallerys aesthetic and thematic guidelines.
Coordinates lighting s to achieve optimal visual effects.
Repairs and retouching artwork as necessary
Provides input for exhibition catalogs gallery guides and related materials including vinyl installation.
Works with and supervises volunteers student workers and other contractors to ensure wall preparation and physical installation of 2D 3D and time-based exhibits.
Manages overall exhibition timeline and coordinates budget and purchasing with AD of Galleries & Exhibitions.
Exhibition Programming
Assists Assistant director in coordination of student exhibitions including BFA Thesis MFA First Year Exhibition MFA Thesis Low Residency Thesis shows.
Coordinates special calls for BFA and MFA student solo and group shows.
Provides mentorship and professional leadership for students interns and volunteers and demonstrates a commitment to the academic initiatives and mission of PNCA.
Plans thesis exhibition and coordinates support for students whose Thesis Projects require more intense installations.
Provides professional practice and coaching to students during installation.
Manages work study students coordinating installation and technical oversight of thesisand to help any Thesis student understand the elements of a successful installation.
Communicates with and engages the Facilities Dept and IT Dept to facilitate a successful Focus Week experience.
Collections Management
Works with Assistant Director on other issues related to collection management repair and registration including updates to collections inventory repair or deaccessioning.
May work on special projects research grants or coordinate with other units related to special events and scholarly projects.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in art design or related field
2-3 years of experience in art handling curatorial collections management or gallery/museum preparatory work
Google Suite and Online meeting platforms (Zoom Teams GoogleMeet)
Proficient in tools and techniques used in art installation
Ability to lift heavy objects and work at heights
Excellent communication and conflict management skills
Excellent problem solving skills
Portfolio of previous installations
Typical Work Schedule: 20 hours/week (may flex higher during peaks such as Focus Week and Thesis installation); some weekend or evening work required
Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Requires heavy lifting (50 lbs) use of power tools and occasional work on ladders and lifting equipment.
Salary: $21.99/hr
