Electrical Designer (Team Lead)

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Electrical Designer with approximately 10 years of industry experience to support engineering and capital projects in the Bakersfield area. This individual will play a key technical role in developing electrical design packages while also serving in a team lead and work review capacity for junior designers and drafters.
The ideal candidate brings strong industrial project experience a practical understanding of field conditions and the ability to ensure quality consistency and constructability across multiple projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical design packages for industrial and energy-related projects
- Prepare and review:
- Single-line diagrams
- Three-line diagrams
- Power distribution layouts
- Motor control schematics
- Lighting and grounding plans
- Cable tray and conduit routing drawings
- Perform equipment layout and area classification drawings where applicable
- Coordinate closely with electrical engineers project managers and field personnel
- Conduct design reviews to ensure compliance with project scope applicable codes and company standards
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior designers and drafters
- Perform quality control and work review prior to IFC (Issued for Construction) release
- Support construction activities including responding to RFIs and reviewing redlines
- Interface with clients and stakeholders as needed
Qualifications
- 8 12 years of electrical design experience in industrial oil & gas power generation or heavy industrial environments
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (experience with Plant 3D or similar platforms preferred)
- Solid understanding of:
- NEC
- IEEE standards
- Industrial power distribution systems (480V MV systems a plus)
- Motor control centers (MCCs)
- Hazardous area classifications (Class I Div 1 & 2 experience preferred)
- Experience supporting projects in refinery upstream midstream or industrial facilities strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience performing design reviews and leading drafting teams
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Associates degree or technical certification in Drafting Electrical Technology or related field
- Experience with ETAP SKM or similar power system software (support role)
- Field walkdown experience in operating facilities
- Familiarity with Bakersfield / San Joaquin Valley industrial market
