Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for x4 Laboratory Shift Analysts to join the team in Rustenburg. This individual will be Responsible for ensuring generation and production of analytical results to a high degree of precision and accuracy and ensuring that a cost effective and high-quality
analytical service is provided to clients within stipulated turnaround times. To evaluate the results and to ensure that all Quality Control and Safety measures are upheld to the highest standard within the 6E Section.

To be successful at Alfred H Knight the incumbent will need to display the following:
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCE
Responsibilities
- Carrying out 6E sample registration and subsequent analytical processes from fluxing fusion bottom milling leaching precipitation filtration dissolution to instrumental analysis to a high degree of accuracy and precision as per standard method and operating procedures and applying good laboratory practice
- Ensuring at all times that a high degree of accuracy and precision is applied to methods and procedures through incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles
- Ensuring the organisation of daily workload to meet the agreed work schedules and targets and to ensure that all processes are performed in accordance with documented methods and procedures
- Implementation of the ISO17025:2017 quality management system within the 6E Laboratory section under the guidance of the Laboratory Chemist (6E)
- Implement the first line maintenance of equipment and measuring instruments in order to identify sources of unwanted contamination and malfunctions that affect accuracy by ensuring that daily equipment checklists/verifications are completed as required in respective SOPs and faulty equipment being brought to the attention of the Laboratory Chemist (6E)
- Maintaining records and laboratory data such that work is clearly and easily auditable and traceable
- Diligently reviewing processing and authorisation of analytical data/results and reporting to meet customer turnaround times as Technical Signatory
- Advising the Laboratory Chemist (6E) of repetitive technical problems relating to day-to-day analytical procedures and standard operating practices for resolution
- Participating in audit and in-process non-conformances and customer complaints investigations and ensuring effective implementation of agreed corrective and preventative actions
- Participating in liaison with the Laboratory Technical team in group quality initiatives round robins method validation and proficiency testing schemes
- Advising the Laboratory Chemist (6E) on problems that may affect results production and turnaround times
- Preparing reagents instrument calibration standards and performing instrument calibrations and routinely performing instrument checks and recording all relevant data
- Ensuring the confidentiality of all results at all times
- Participating in production/toolbox meetings within 6E Section to ensure that the post holder is well informed on of set production targets
- Ensuring that excellent housekeeping is maintained at all times within the 6E Laboratory Section and that samples are stored correctly at all times and are easily retrievable when required
- Participating in reviewing on a cyclic basis in liaison with Laboratory Technical Team the Laboratory QMS documentation to ensure that quality standards are maintained and that methods are current and reflect the procedures applied throughout the laboratory
- Monitoring of stock levels to ensure all critical chemicals consumables and equipment spares for ICP-OES are readily available and minimum quantities are kept in stock to avoid shortages which can cause delays in routine analysis
Required Competencies
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
- Good knowledge and understanding of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
- High computer literacy including high level presentations
- Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Quality: Right first time approach completes work to a high standard continually looking for improvements and strong problem-solvers high level of attention to detail is key within this role.
- Managing uncertainty: Handles pressure and ambiguity well exercises good judgment and handles challenges in a mature manner
- Able to manage own time effectively whilst working to tight deadlines
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision and under pressure
- Effective team working and interpersonal skills
- Good attention to detail
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 with Maths & Science
- Analytical Chemistry Diploma
Required work experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an Analytical Laboratory
