DescriptionABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the Manager Health Protection and under the guidance and direction of Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Control Officers is responsible for entering tobacco and vapour retail premises in York Region and attempting to purchase a tobacco or vapour product; writing notes with respect to their actions and observations and informing the Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Control Officers of same; and giving testimony in court.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING
- Receives instructions from a Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Control Officer enters a tobacco or vapour retail premise in York Region and attempts to secure the sale of a tobacco or vapour product.
- Converses with tobacco and vapour retailers without supervision.
- Recalls details enters and maintains detailed notes in a notebook with respect to actions and observations.
- Relays information to Tobacco and Electronic Cigarette Control Officers with respect to actions and observations.
- Gives testimony in court as required.
- Attends and participates in training programs and meetings as required.
- May occasionally be required to respond to emergency situations outside of normal business hours as related to the Departmental Emergency Plan.
- Performs other duties as assigned in accordance with Branch and Departmental objectives.
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
- Currently enrolled on a full time basis in secondary school between the ages of 15-17.
- Must be a non-smoker/vapour.
- Must live in York Region
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in corporate core competencies including customer service communication team work initiative/self management and accountability and flexibility/adaptability.
- Demonstrated observation skills and ability to recall details and enter these observations legibly in a notebook.
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to give testimony in court.
- Ability to work flexible hours and days.
- Ability to work outside regular business hours as required.
