Job Summary

POSITION PURPOSE: Provides instructional leadership and day-to-day administration of their respective building. The principal is responsible for creating a safe supportive and high-achieving learning environment by overseeing all aspects of school operations including curriculum personnel management student services discipline family engagement and community relations.

FLSA CLASSIFICATION: Exempt; Full-Time

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisionsof Board policy GCN: Evaluation of Professional Staff.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Masters Degree or higher in Educational Administration or related field.
  • Five or more years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience.

CERTIFICATES:

  • Valid Missouri principal certification in the appropriate grade level.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with school improvement planning and data-driven decision making.
  • Strong instructional leadership and coaching skills.
  • Excellent communication interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proficient working with student information systems and educational technology.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Instructional Leadership

  • Work closely with the Director of Curriculum to develop implement and evaluate curriculum and instructional programs aligned with district goals and state standards.
  • Oversee development implementation and evaluation of a student assessment program to effectively measure student progress toward proficiency on standards throughout the school year.
  • Oversee development implementation and evaluation of intervention strategies to assist students to reach proficiency.
  • Use data to assess student growth drive instructional decisions monitor student academic progress and improve building.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide meaningful feedback to teachers.
  • Promote high expectations for high-level performance by staff and students and communicate those expectations to staff students and parents.
  • Oversees development or annual revision of a building master schedule and the scheduling of students.

Personnel Management

  • Recruit and retain highly-qualified personnel.
  • Hire train supervise and evaluate building-level teachers counselors nurses secretaries and assistant principal (if applicable).
  • Contribute to the hiring and evaluation of paraprofessionals as requested by the Process Coordinator.
  • Foster a positive collaborative culture that promotes professional growth and student achievement.
  • Manage staff assignments and scheduling. Review and approve timesheets for classified staff.
  • Address performance concerns and work to resolve problems.

Student Services

  • Maintain a safe orderly and inclusive school environment.
  • Work with faculty and students to develop a discipline program which aligns with district policy to encourage positive student behavior and enhance the learning environment.
  • Ensure that school rules are uniformly observed and fairly enforced and that any disciplinary consequences are appropriate and equitable.
  • Make recommendations to the board concerning the student code of conduct student handbook and disciplinary policy.
  • Work to promote maximum student attendance.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to students success and well-being.
  • Support special education ELL and other student service programs.
  • Support extracurricular and co-curricular activities and programs.

Operations & Administration

  • Maintain responsible fiscal practices manage the school budget approve all building expenditures and keep programs within budgetary limits.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal state and local laws and regulations.
  • Develop implement and monitor a Building Improvement Plan aligned with the CSIP.
  • Maintain accurate records reports and documentation.
  • Prepare and distribute plans to ensure readiness for emergency situations.
  • Work with the Director of Facilities to identify maintenance and custodial needs to ensure a clean and safe learning environment.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with families community organizations and stakeholders.
  • Communicate proactively about the schools mission its programs and events and student progress.
  • Promote parent and community involvement in the school.
  • Represent the school positively in the broader community.

Professional Development

  • Plan district-wide professional development in collaboration with the administrative team.
  • Facilitate building-level professional development collaborating with district leadership as appropriate.
  • Work in cooperation with the Professional Development Committee to meet individual teacher professional development needs.
  • Supervise and monitor teacher implementation of district professional development initiatives.
  • Actively pursue continuous personal professional growth and participate in district administrative professional development activities.

Other Responsibilities

  • Follow district policies and procedures.
  • Report suspected abuse neglect discrimination and harassment as directed by district policy.
  • Observe promote and support professional rights responsibilities and ethical practices.
  • Contribute to the annual revision of the Districts employee handbook.
  • Coordinate an annual revision of the student handbook for the respective building.
  • Provide administrative supervision at assigned activities and events.
  • Submit reports and other requested information in a timely manner.
  • Manage use of school facilities by non-school entities.
  • Provide counsel and advice to the superintendent.
  • Perform any and all other duties designated by the Board of Education or superintendent.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Eleven-month employee. Salary is dependent on education and experience. Full-time employees are eligible for a benefits package as established by the board of education.
