Under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse the OB technician is responsible for assisting in the nursing care and surgical services in the maternity services area including the provision of patient care necessary for comfort hygiene data collection and documentation. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his/her assigned unit or within his/her department. Must be able to provide the care needed as described in the departments policies and procedures while maintaining the Augusta Health Service Standards. Call and weekend rotation required with 30-minute response time.
Required Education
- High School Diploma or Equivalent & complete internal PCT program within 30 days of hire or Certified Nursing Assistant Course
- Educational requirements per hospital certifications (Example: Stroke Orthopedic/Spine)
Required Licensure/Certification
- Basic Life Support BLS
- Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP)
Preferred Education/Certification
- Previous acute care hospital work experience preferred
- Certified Nursing Course Completion
- EMT
Competencies Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Ability to meet physical and mental requirements for fast paced nursing unit.
- Previous experience in health care setting i.e. nursing assistant or completion of 1st semester of clinical rotations.
- Able to communicate with patients and other staff- verbal auditory and in written form using Augusta Health documentation.
- Unit and annual competencies to be completed each year
- HIPPA - no breaches of confidentiality. No related complaints voiced on patient satisfaction surveys. No related complaints by fellow care providers of observed incidences
