DescriptionThe Manager of Fire & Life Safety is responsible for the oversight inspection maintenance and compliance of all fire protection and life safety systems across Central Piedmont Community Colleges multi-campus portfolio. This role serves as the on-site technical authority for fire alarms sprinklers fire pumps emergency systems and code compliance ensuring the safety of students staff and visitors. The Manager will lead in-house inspection programs reduce outsourced service calls support regulatory requirements and provide expert troubleshooting and repair guidance to facilities teams.
ResponsibilitiesFire & Life Safety Inspections
- Perform full inspections and functional testing of fire alarm sprinkler fire pump standpipe emergency lighting and life safety systems across all campuses.
- Conduct routine emergency system checks including fire pump weekly churn tests and generator-related life safety circuits.
- Document findings and maintain up-to-date inspection records in accordance with NFPA State Fire Marshal and local regulatory standards.
Technical Expertise & Troubleshooting
- Act as the on-site technical authority for all fire protection and life safety systems.
- Provide in-house troubleshooting and minor repairs to reduce outsourced work orders and vendor dependency.
- Support maintenance teams with diagnosis of system faults device malfunctions communication issues and impairment events.
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Assist in managing impairment plans ensuring proper notifications fire watch documentation and restoration procedures.
- Ensure strict compliance with NFPA codes North Carolina Fire Code and State Fire Marshal requirements.
- Prepare for and support inspections by third-party agencies including the Fire Marshal.
Vendor & Contract Oversight
- Review inspection reports from subcontractors and vendors for accuracy code compliance and completeness.
- Oversee contracted repairs to ensure proper scope pricing accuracy and College cost control.
- Coordinate with outside vendors as needed ensuring work quality and alignment with CPCC standards.
Operational Efficiency
- Reduce outsourced service calls by building internal capability for routine inspections and minor system repairs.
- Track trends in system performance recurring issues and asset life cycle to support long-term planning.
- Provide technical guidance to facilities staff related to fire/life safety systems and emergency procedures.
Qualifications- NICET Level III in Fire Alarm Systems Sprinkler Systems or Fire Protection required.
- 10 years of experience in fire protection life safety inspection fire alarms or related technical fields.
- Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable North Carolina Licenses within designated timeline.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards local fire codes and inspection/testing procedures.
- Experience with digital inspection platforms work order systems and report documentation.
