About the Role
The OGC Counsel - Conflicts & Ethics is an integral part of Lathams Office of the General Counsel team. This role will be responsible for resolving professional ethics conflicts and other ethics and compliance issues relating to lateral clearances new business matters and outside counsel guidelines across the firms offices while applying knowledge of legal ethics and professional responsibility rules relating to lateral attorney and new matter conflicts of interest as well as relevant Latham procedures policies and practices to advise Ethics Committee Members and other attorneys and key stakeholders. This role will be located in either our Boston New York Washington D.C. or Houston office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Other key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing situationspecific conflicts checks as needed
- Reviewing outside counsel guidelines nonstandard engagement letters and requests for proposal (RFPs) received from clients and working with partners to prepare client responses that align with firm policies
- Advising attorneys and others regarding engagement letters conflicts waivers ethics walls and firm policies
- Performing legal research and analysis on professional responsibility issues as requested by the Deputy General Counsel Senior Assistant General Counsel Conflicts & Ethics any of the Managing Counsel Conflicts & Ethics or Ethics Committee members
- Preparing and delivering training for attorneys and staff on topics relevant to conflicts ethics and professional responsibility
- Conducting audits of partners for compliance with laws regulations and firm policies while collaborating with other members of the OGC
- Providing administrative support and legal guidance for Ethics Committee and OGC projects and various types of data management including maintenance of engagement letter and waiver templates intranet websites and informational materials
- Protecting and maintaining any highly sensitive confidential privileged financial and/or proprietary information that Latham & Watkins retains

- Possess well-developed and professional interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
- Exhibit strong communication skills both written and oral
- Demonstrate excellent attention to detail
And have:
- A Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent
- Admission to the relevant state bar with active status
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience practicing law and/or working on an ethics conflicts team in a global law firm setting preferably
