AECOM is seeking a Chemist Data Validation to be based in one of our offices in South Africa. Candidates will be responsible for the following activities:
- Review and validate chemical data packages by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) guidance to ensure compliance with published analytical methods and usability of environmental data.
- Upload laboratory analytical data to specific client and regulatory databases.
- Manage data in relational database systems like Earthsoft EQuIS or LOCUS.
- Handle electronic data deliverables to create report-ready tables and visualizations.
- Prepare technical memoranda and white papers to be included in client deliverables.
- Implement innovation and automation tools produced by the team.
- Task management: Manage workloads assigned by chemistry staff within stipulated time.
- The project chemist will support quality assurance/quality control data management data analysis and various analytical chemistry aspects of environmental investigations for our clients.
- The candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects developing their technical skills as a chemist while exploring new interests as well.
- Youll be valued as a unique resource as you contribute and support our project teams by providing key technical assistance for various environmental remediation and monitoring projects.
This position offers the flexibility of a hybrid work opportunity including both in-office and remote work schedules from one of our offices in South Africa. We have offices in Cape Town Pretoria and Durban.
Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will have the following Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in chemistry Environmental Science or another related discipline plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a quality control laboratory and/or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- The ideal candidate will be able to understand requests from environmental subject matter experts.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of environmental chemistry principles.
- Knowledge of analytical chemistry principles (i.e. quality assurance and quality control)
- Knowledge of Analytical method validations and Instrument calibration.
- Familiarity with data validation data review field screening data management and sampling plans.
- Experience using relational databases such as EQuIS or Microsoft Access.
- Should be proficient in data validation and understand the valid qualifiers and reason codes.
- Knowledge or experience with the analytical challenges presented by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS).
- Experience performing chemical analysis (Quality control) in an academic or commercial setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in chemistry Environmental Science or another related discipline.
- Minimum of 5-8 years of relevant experience in a Quality control laboratory and or demonstrated equivalency of experience and or education.
