Stowmarket Town Council is the grassroots voice for a thriving market town at the heart of Suffolk proudly serving a community of around 23000 residents. As the tier of local government closest to the people it represents we are accountable to our local community and dedicated to enhancing quality of life in every corner of the town. We deliver essential services manage valued green spaces and organise celebrated local events including the Food and Drink Festival StowFest and the Christmas Fayre. The town council also operates key community assets such as The Regal Stowmarket Community Centre play parks and open spaces across Stowmarket. We take pride in creating a cleaner greener more welcoming town where residents visitors businesses and community groups can thrive.

As a Lead Ranger with Stowmarket Town Council you will play a central role in shaping the look and feel of the towns public spaces and supporting community life. You will lead and deliver high-quality ranger services that keep our parks open spaces and rights of way welcoming safe and well maintained. Your work will be visible valued and vital in helping the town council achieve its ambitions to enrich and sustain this vibrant town.

Core Responsibilities:

  • deliver and supervise a proactive Town Ranger service maintaining clean safe and attractive public spaces

  • carry out vegetation control litter removal graffiti and minor repairs painting and general maintenance

  • undertake approved spraying operations with accurate record-keeping for compliance

  • lead twice-weekly market operations including setup pack-down waste management and safety checks

  • inspect and maintain town council play areas meeting statutory and safety standards

  • maintain vehicles tools equipment and PPE to ensure safety and compliance

  • plan and coordinate weekly work programmes briefing and supervising the Town Ranger team

  • support civic and community events estate maintenance reactive tasks and emergency response

  • contribute to environmental improvement and sustainability initiatives

  • ensure all activities comply with health and safety procedures and risk assessments.

This is a hands-on highly visible role that blends operational delivery with team leadership offering the opportunity to directly shape the appearance and safety of Stowmarkets streets parks and community spaces.
