The Litigation Manager serves as the central point of contact for all litigation matters (other than third-party product liability property damage claims and employment) including matter intake outside counsel assignment and coordination deadline management discovery responses litigation holds and reporting. The role also assumes oversight of asbestos litigation including coordination of national counsel and e-billing and partners with the Senior Claims Manager on litigated product claims as needed.
This position will serve our Enterprise Division located in Atlanta GA (Onsite).
Serve as the primary point of contact for litigation; manage matter intake calendars and deadlines to ensure timely compliance.
In coordination with VP Deputy General Counsel assign retain and coordinate outside counsel; prepare engagement letters and manage budget.
Manage discovery processes including preparation and coordination of interrogatory responses subpoena responses and litigation holds in partnership with business stakeholders.
Manage and track the litigation docket; report status exposure and strategy to the VPDeputy General Counsel and Director of Risk Management.
Oversee asbestos litigation including coordination with VP - Deputy General Counsel and National Asbestos Counsel on assignments settlements and dismissals.
Administer litigation and asbestos matters in Legals e-billing system (invoice review firm approvals vendor set-up and processing) in coordination with Legal Operations Administrator.
Attend mediations and settlement conferences as needed.
Participate in quarterly claims reviews with senior leadership to review claims portfolio which includes setting reserves reviewing case details and future strategies for claims handling.
Coordinate with the Senior Claims Manager on information sharing and as needed provide support for litigated product liability claims while recognizing the Senior Claims Managers primary ownership of third-party product liability property damage matters.
Work closely with internal engineers and outside technical experts to develop case strategy and evaluate complex technical issues.
Lead takeover and integration of litigated claims from acquired entities.
Bachelors degree required
Minimum of seven (7) years of experience managing litigation matters with a strong emphasis on defense litigation (not plaintiff representation) in a corporate legal department law firm or at a third-party claims administrator (TPA)
Minimum of five (5) years working with a Risk Management Information System (Riskonnect a plus) or Matter Management system preferred
Experience with asbestos litigation is preferred
Preferred credentials: AIC or equivalent professional claims designation; ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate; and/or Property & Casualty Adjusters License
Ability to synthesize complex technical and legal information for reporting to senior leadership
Assessing and managing pre-litigation matters including early case evaluation and risk mitigation
Forecasting litigation exposure and costs
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
Proficiency in standard business software and legal matter management systems
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively in a matrixed team environment
Strong organizational and time management skills
Demonstrates ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
Experience in providing quality internal/external customer service
