Description
$2500 Hiring Bonus! GCIs System Network Technician III will provide installation maintenance and optimization of a diverse range of state-of-the-art telecommunications voice and data networks and equipment. Support oil and gas companies and their contractors across designated regional areas such as North Slope Offshore Open Water Platform Remote Arctic Exploration. Ensure reliable connectivity and operational excellence including oversight of restoration operations as assigned.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES AT ALL LEVELS:

Installation & Configuration

  • Install operate configure test upgrade and maintain telecommunications systems and equipment that maximizes availability and delivers reliable high-quality service to include:
    • Central Office equipment
    • Desktop computing
    • Digital microwave radios
    • Fiber optic cable
    • Digital carrier networks
    • Digital Access and Cross-Connect Systems (DACS)
    • Telephony
    • LAN/WAN (installation and maintenance of Cisco routers and switches)
    • Cat 5 wiring
    • V-SAT deployment
    • Systems and equipment supporting client Exploration efforts (Ku & C band)
    • Two-way radio and Airspan wireless communications systems
    • Tower construction and telecom component installation
    • Antenna mounting and alignment
    • Waveguide and coax installation and testing
  • Act as the on-site technician for all phases of system installation testing maintenance outage prevention and service restoration.
  • Prioritize workload and competing requirements to meet deadlines.
  • Provide updates to service delivery managers clients and internal partners as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations maintenance activities and service restoration procedures.
  • Update documentation as needed highlighting revisions so stakeholders can easily review any changes.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards safety requirements and industry best practices during all installation and maintenance activities.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical support for configuration and testing of telecommunication systems.
  • Perform site surveys determine problems and develop requirements and solutions.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain service continuity.
  • Provide proactive outage prevention and efficient service restoration to maintain uninterrupted operations.
  • Conduct performance analysis and diagnostics to ensure system reliability.
  • Serve as a point of contact for customer support including capturing work requirements troubleshooting and assisting in problem resolution.
  • Comply with all company and customer/client telecom regulations and safety programs.
    • Ability to accurately articulate technical information verbally (virtually telephonically in person) and in writing (documentation drawings policies training outlines etc.) to internal and external audienceswith varying levels of technical understanding.
    • Ability to use sound logical judgment to choose an appropriate course of action.
    • Ability to effectively evaluate workload prioritize tasks and set realistic goals while maintaining safety as the highest priority.
    • Understanding of the installation configuration operation and testing of communication and desktop computing systems.
    • Understanding of the theory operation and troubleshooting of state-of-the-art digital communications network equipment.
    • Understanding of oil/gas field equipment standards digital microwave radios desktop computing fiber optic installation and maintenance digital carrier networks DACS telephony LAN/WAN Cat 5e wiring standards and 2-way radio.

Additional Job Requirements:

This is a mid-level position within the discipline demonstrating strong knowledge and proficiency in areas of responsibility. Performs complex tasks and job duties receiving minimal to no instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. Works under moderate to minimal supervision with latitude for independent judgment. Supports higher level staff in implementing more complex projects.

  • Provide technical training and guidance to junior staff.
  • Lead moderate projects and provide strong technical expertise.

Additional Competencies:

  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of and ability to install configure operate and test communication and desktop computing systems.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge of the theory and operation of state-of-the-art digital communication network equipment with the ability to effectively troubleshoot and find resolution.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in tower construction and telecom component installation antenna mounting and alignment waveguide and coax installation and testing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the installation and maintenance of two-way radio and Airspan wireless communications systems.
  • Understanding of Central Office equipment standards V-SAT deployment and operations in support of client Exploration efforts (Ku & C band).

Minimum Qualifications:

Required: *A combination of relevant work experience and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may substitute to meet the total years required on a year-for-year basis

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate degree in information technology electronics systems computer science or related field. *
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in telecommunications operation repair and installation to include: *
    • At least three (3) years of relevant experience supporting the Oil & Gas industry and/or in a North Slope Offshore Open Water Platform or Remote Arctic Exploration environment.
  • Required to successfully obtain and maintain the following certification within 90 days of hire: Tower climbing and rescue.
  • Required to successfully obtain and maintain additional certifications within specified timeframes to satisfy client or company guidelines e.g. Defensive Driving North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) Hewitt Safety Training and Cold Water.

Preferred:

  • Bachelors degree in information technology electronics systems computer science or related area.
  • FCC General Class License Safe Gulf CCNA A+ certification.
  • Other relevant telecom industry or job specific certifications.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position requires driving a company-owned vehicle company provided vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the company. Must possess and maintain a valid drivers license proof of insurance a satisfactory driving record and successfully complete Defensive Driving course.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Travel required: work is performed onsite at customer facilities on the North SlopeAnchorage and Gulf regions.
  • Work schedules are rotational with 2 weeks on/2 weeks off or 1 week on/1 week off or 8/12 hours a day 5/7 days a week with occasional dispatch.
  • Position is on call 24 hours per day during work shifts.
  • Must be able and willing to work flexible hours including but not limited to overtime on-call and/or additional time on weekends holidays evenings before or after normal shift hours.
  • Additional travel may be required to assist other systems personnel.
  • Duties entail working inside in a typical office type environment and outside in extreme arctic/offshore weather conditions.
  • Position requires driving under challenging conditions including inclement weather remote locations and varying road surfaces.
  • Must be able to climb and work at heights up to 200 feet.
  • Tasks performed around high-power electrical conductors and gas lines.
  • Work areas can be cramped dark dusty damp wet stuffy sticky smelly hot and/or cold.
  • High degree of balance coordination and strength needed to safely and routinely ascend descend and work atop poles towers and ladders with tools and equipment.
  • Daily moving traversing and positioning self on varied uneven or unstable surfaces often hampered by weather elements.
  • Safely move transport position install remove and maneuver equipment and supplies of up to 70-pound loads occasionally up to 50 pounds more regularly up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • High degree of dexterity and coordination to operate hand tools and to connect separate and twist multiple smaller items on a regular basis.
  • Visual acuity necessary to identify inspect observe and assess details at near mid and far ranges.
  • Ability to clearly distinguish colors for driving identifying cables or other electrical components and safety signage.
  • Auditory acuity necessary to operate equipment;capable of distinguishing between equipment signals and the human voice often amidst background noises such as wind rain and traffic.
  • Ability to tolerate temperature and weather extremes found in the Alaskan environment (fumes and odors dust low light conditions rain sleet snow hail wind temperature extremes.)
  • Ability to work shifts as assigned work in standard office/home office setting and operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to accurately communicate information and ideas to others effectively.
  • Physical agility and effort sufficient to perform job duties safely and effectively.
  • Ability to make valid judgments and decisions.
  • Must work well in a team environment and be able to work with a diverse group of people and customers.
  • Drug Testing: Participation in a DOT or non-DOT drug and alcohol testing program may be required to satisfy conditions of a contract or proposed contract with a business partner or client. This includes pre-employment random reasonable suspicion post-accident return to duty and follow-up testing.
  • Fitness for Duty: Ability to pass a pre-employment or return to work physical and fitness for duty examination may be required to satisfy conditions of a contract or proposed contract with a business partner or client.
