PURPOSE

The Strategic Portfolio Manager is responsible for the management of the core strategic portfolio of work ranging across business operations and delivery and including a view on external dependencies in the SARB and industry environments. Management of this portfolio requires that the incumbent gain visibility of the portfolio inclusions create necessary plans to sequence them and conduct ongoing portfolio optimization in response to events as they addition the incumbent is required to ensure that the portfolio remains aligned with the organizations objectives risk tolerance and financial performance targets. Both internal and external stakeholder engagement is prioritised. This role serves as a critical interface between executive leadership and business ensuring the portfolio delivers maximum value and supports informed decision-making.

You will engage with the following stakeholders:
Executive Leadership Provide regular portfolio updates and strategic recommendations
Program & Project Managers Collaborate on project delivery prioritization and resource allocation
Finance Teams Work closely to track budget utilization ROI and portfolio-level financial performance
Risk & Compliance Teams Ensure the portfolio adheres to internal controls and external regulations
Clients / External Stakeholders (if applicable) Communicate investment strategy performance and compliance
PMO / Strategy Office Coordinate portfolio governance and alignment with organizational strategy

Your key responsibilities include:
1. Strategic Portfolio Oversight
o Lead the development and implementation of portfolio strategy aligned with organizational goals
o Evaluate prioritize and manage the intake of new initiatives into the portfolio
o Continuously assess and rebalance the portfolio to optimize value and manage risk

2. Governance & Reporting
o Establish and enforce portfolio governance frameworks standards and KPIs
o Produce and present regular portfolio performance reports and dashboards to stakeholders
o Facilitate portfolio review boards and decision-making forums

3. Financial Management
o Oversee portfolio budgeting financial forecasting and cost-benefit analyses
o Monitor portfolio financial health including ROI cost savings and funding allocations

4. Risk & Issue Management
o Identify assess and mitigate portfolio-level risks and issues
o Ensure that escalation and mitigation strategies are effectively applied

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
o Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders.
o Maintain transparent and timely communication across the portfolio lifecycle

6. Team Leadership & Mentorship
o Provide leadership and guidance to Junior Portfolio Managers or Analysts
o Promote best practices in portfolio and project management across the organization

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree in finance Business Administration Engineering or a related field.
Masters degree (e.g. MBA MSc Finance or related discipline)
Certifications such as PfMP (Portfolio Management Professional) PMP PRINCE2 MoP (Management of Portfolios) or CFA (for investment-focused roles) are desirable

EXPERIENCE:
710 years of experience in portfolio management ideally in the financial services industry and ideally within a complex organization
Demonstrated experience in managing large and diverse portfolios (investment transformation or infrastructure)
Strong financial acumen with proven ability to assess and optimize investments and resource allocation
Excellent analytical presentation and stakeholder management skills
Experience with C-suite and senior industry engagement
