The Role:
As a member of the Institutional Distributionteam you will join a high-performing collaborative group responsible for strengthening institutional client relationships and developing meaningful partnerships with prospects and consultants to support long-term growth. The Director Institutional Relationship Management provides strategic and operational leadership for the team supporting Mackenzies global institutional business while maintaining direct relationship accountability for a select group of institutional clients.
Key accountabilities supporting the growth efficiency and governance of the global institutional business include leading the delivery of institutional client reporting; overseeing consultant database management; directing client onboarding and offboarding process; and ensuring the development implementation and continuous improvement of procedural frameworks across core functions.
This role partners extensively with teams across the organization including Portfolio Management Sales Marketing Product Compliance Operations and Legal among others.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and development for the Client Services team supporting Mackenzies global institutional business.
- Lead relationship management activities for a select group of institutional clients acting as the senior point of contact and ensuring a high standard of service and strategic engagement.
- Deliver timely relevant and tailored client communications including investment performance updates portfolio manager insights strategy developments and market commentary.
- Coordinate and facilitate periodic client reviews independently or in partnership with portfolio managers investment directors and relevant investment teams ensuring high-quality interactions that reinforce the firms value proposition.
- Proactively manage client retention and growth by identifying at-risk relationships executing targeted retention strategies and advancing cross-selling opportunities that deepen and broaden client partnerships.
- Oversee the end-to-end institutional client reporting function ensuring strong risk controls governance operational effectiveness and the accurate and timely delivery of monthly and quarterly reports aligned with firm standards.
- Provide oversight of client service activities ensuring client prospect consultant and internal stakeholder inquiries are addressed promptly accurately and professionally.
- Maintain overall accountability directly or through delegates for serving as the point of coordination for institutional clients and internal stakeholders throughout the full onboarding and offboarding lifecycle ensuring seamless cross-functional execution and adherence to regulatory and internal requirements.
- Oversee and approve institutional client transaction activity ensuring alignment with client mandates KYC and suitability requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
- Provide oversight of Mackenzie Greenchip client servicing activities including transaction approvals onboarding/offboarding coordination and regulatory adherence.
- Identify assess and mitigate operational regulatory and client-specific risks ensuring appropriate controls documentation standards and governance practices are consistently applied.
- Lead strategic and operational initiatives that enhance business effectiveness scalability efficiency and risk management driving continuous improvement across systems workflows and governance frameworks.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior leadership experience within an institutional asset management firm including managing and developing high performing teams
- Strong relationship management experience with a solid understanding of portfolio management investment products and investment operations
- Working knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements; experience applying these in a client-facing or operational context is an asset
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and manage multiple complex deadline-driven priorities simultaneously with sound judgement
- Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage across all organizational levels
- Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with professionals across multiple organizational levels
- Strong team orientation with a collaborative solutions-focused mindset
- Highly detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to maintain accuracy and quality in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities coupled with initiative and the ability to anticipate and address issues proactively
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to coordinate multiple concurrent initiatives
- Demonstrated knowledge of institutional client onboarding and offboarding processes
- Willingness to travel as required
- Post-secondary degree required; specialization in business finance or a related discipline considered an asset
- Successful completion of the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) or an equivalent industry-recognized investment designation (e.g. IFIC CFA CIM)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of or progress toward the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and/or Chartered Investment Manager (CIM) designation considered an asset
- Experience with Salesforce and eVestment platforms preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word Excel and PowerPoint

The expected annual base salary range for this role is ($150000- $192000) which is determined based on skills knowledge and experience and geographic addition to base salary this role is eligible for annual short-term incentive health and well-being benefits retirement and savings plan paid time off and career development.
