Were looking for an exceptional leader to manage our Radiotherapy Technical Services team - a role where managerial responsibility strategic oversight and professional leadership are the primary focus supported by strong technical understanding.
Our Radiotherapy service supports state of the art cancer treatment technologies including:
Varian Linear Accelerators
SABR VMAT IMRT and respiratorygated therapies
Complex radiotherapy control imaging and QA systems
The Radiotherapy Technical Services Manager ensures that:
- The service runs safely efficiently and in compliance with IRR17 IRMER and national standards
- Highly specialised engineering teams perform to excellence
- Clinical risks are mitigated and treatment can proceed without interruption
- External engineers contractors and suppliers meet Trust expectations
- Data reporting and quality systems are robust and audit ready
- Strategic planning device lifecycle management and procurement are professionally overseen
This is a key operational leadership role central to patient pathways and Trust performance.
What youll be doing
- Leading and developing the Radiotherapy engineering team
- Overseeing quality assurance governance audits and compliance
- Managing workload performance and escalation of complex issues
- Liaising with senior clinicians and medical physics on service planning
- Contributing to procurement commissioning and major installation projects
- Monitoring service risks and implementing improvement plans
- Ensuring accurate technical records databases and reporting
- Representing the department in Trust-wide Health & Safety and regulatory forums
What youll lead
You will manage a dedicated clinical engineering workforce responsible for approx:
- 19000 devices across 450 product types
- 17000 maintenance and engineering jobs each year
- 48 million in managed medical equipment assets
- A team of highly skilled technicians and on occasion deputise when other leads of service are absent.
You will set competency standards oversee training conduct performance reviews ensure regulatory compliance and provide professional leadership across Radiotherapy engineering.

Qualifications :
Essential
- Post graduate qualification and experience in Clinical Engineering or related subject or equivalent experience in Clinical Engineering electronics or other appropriate engineering / scientific subject.
- Member of the Register of Clinical Technologists
- Appropriate technical qualifications
Desirable
- MSc or other postgraduate qualification in relevant subject.
- Member of an appropriate professional body

Essential
- Eighteen months experience of electronic and electromechanical systems.
(or exceptionally other equivalent combination of qualifications and knowledge) - Demonstrate appropriate in depth knowledge and understanding gained from technical service experience whilst working for a minimum of five years in the clinical engineering field.
- A further five years related engineering experience in related industries or organisations demonstrated through a portfolio of evidence of medical device practical and theoretical training and knowledge
Desirable
- Medical devices and healthcare environment
- Manufacturers training courses
- Member of an appropriate professional institute
- Member of Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT)
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Sound knowledge of a broad range of scientific and engineering principles
- Extensive knowledge of complex medical devices
- Ability to effectively organise the workload of and motivate other staff
- Sound understanding of medical device management principles
- Understanding of clinical environment and procedures
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Analytical and problem solving skills on highly complex medical devices.
- Able to use standard office and bespoke IT software applications
- Work extensively without supervision using own initiative
- Fault find on highly complex medical equipment utilising manufacturers documentation
