Job Title: Laboratory Manager I
Reports to: Laboratory or Technical Director
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Laboratory. This role ensures that testing is performed accurately and in compliance with quality standards oversees technical training resolves technical issues and supports continuous improvement. The Laboratory Manager plays a key role in maintaining regulatory compliance and supporting the laboratorys overall operational goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises staff including hiring scheduling and assigning work reviewing performance and recommends salary increases promotions transfers demotions or terminations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supervise daily operations within the assigned laboratory department.
- Ensure test methods are executed accurately and in accordance with SOPs and regulatory standards.
- Implement and monitor quality control procedures to maintain data integrity and compliance.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to laboratory analysts and technicians.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to testing and instrumentation.
- Collaborate with QA and other departments to support audits corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Maintain proper documentation of procedures results and quality records.
- Monitor workload distribution and adjust staffing or priorities as needed to meet turnaround times.
- Ensure laboratory safety protocols are followed and promote a culture of safety and accountability.
- Participate in method development validation and implementation as needed.
- Ensure department operations align with TNI and accreditation requirements.
Pay Rate
$50000-$60000/DOE
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong technical knowledge in environmental laboratory testing and instrumentation.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as TNI NELAC EPA and ISO/IEC 17025.
- Excellent leadership organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and mentor staff effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree in chemistry Environmental Science Biology or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environmental laboratory with preferably at least 2 years in a supervisory or technical lead role.
- Must meet the education and experience qualifications required by TNI and relevant accreditation bodies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit stand and walk for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to operate laboratory instruments and computer systems.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to work in a laboratory environment with exposure to chemicals and environmental samples using appropriate PPE.
