Job Title: Construction Inspector
Location: Omaha Public Schools Service Center 4041 North 72nd St 68134-4407
Reports To: Supervisor of Schoolhouse Planning
Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 12 month exempt
Salary Schedule: 91E - Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Position Purpose: Under general supervision from the Supervisor of Schoolhouse Planning the Construction Inspector performs duties in inspecting school construction to ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
- Coordination and monitoring District performed remodeling modifications and general construction work along with remodeling and new construction designed by architectural and engineering professionals.
- Submit requests to the Districts Facility Work Request System for coordination and support between District Departments.
- Enter time materials and comments along with other project related information into the Districts Facility Work Request System.
- Participate in reviewing facility needs establishing project objectives preparing cost estimates performing constructability reviews and developing bidding documents.
- Perform reviews of Project documents to ensure designs are meeting the Districts design and construction guidelines and standards.
- Conduct project field inspections review of shop drawings review and approval of invoices and change order documents.
- Perform regular reviews of work being performed to ensure safe environments are provided for staff & students.
- Work with other District departments to coordinate completion of projects.
- Ability to maintain detailed work documentation work independently and maintain flexibility to adjust to multiple projects and changing priorities.
- Confers with and assists administration and/or project teams within to assure department initiatives are achieved.
Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
Travel: Local travel will be required.
Physical and Mental Demands Work Hazards:
- Will frequently work in or around an active construction site.
- Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.
- Must have organization time management communication and interpersonal skills.
- Work in an office environment school buildings and warehouse setting.
Interrelations:
- Contact with personnel within the district and with customers contractors and vendors.
- Will be working with limited direct supervision of the department supervisor.
- Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.
- Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.
- Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly professional manner and provide quick responsive customer service.
Employee Punctuality and Appearance
- In order for schools to operate effectively employees are expected to perform all assigned duties and work all scheduled hours during each designated workday unless the employee has received approved leave.
- Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employees supervisor or building administrator.
- All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image of Omaha Public Schools and is appropriate for their position.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Minimum Bachelors Degree in Construction Management Construction Engineering or related areas of Architecture/Engineering.
- A minimum of 3years of experience in Construction Management Project Management or related areas of Architecture/Engineering.
- Working knowledge of commercial building design construction methods project estimating budgeting scheduling and building codes.
- Ability to understand and interpret construction drawings and specifications including structural mechanical electrical and telecommunications systems.
- Experience with project design on site construction observations inspections and record keeping.
- Demonstrates knowledge and use of mobile devicespersonal computers Microsoft Office software andfacility management software.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of information and records.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and handle multiple projects with attention to detail and prioritization.
- Experience in supervising and scheduling the work of others.
- Excellent communications skills both written and oral.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
- Ability to meet the Districts insurability requirements.
- Skills pertinent to positive human relationships and the ability to work effectively with staff members in multicultural urban setting.
