JOB SUMMARY Assists the City of Elkhart Parks & Recreation Departments Events Coordinator and Events Assistant & Volunteer Coordinator with community engagement planning and implementing community events throughout the Parks system for all ages.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises monitors and assists event participants with enrichment activities ensuring all participants maximum success and enjoyment at community events. Assists with special events and programs throughout the year. Works events for the parks during nights and weekends. Unloading equipment and setting up venues for events. Dispensing useful information to event-goers. Packing up and cleaning up event when completed.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for the care and well-being of event participants Supports overall Parks goals and needs throughout the year. Other duties as assigned by supervisor to support overall success of the event.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Must be at least 17 years old with reliable transportation to and from work. High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework in recreation marketing community development or a related field is a plus. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Good communication and time management skills Conflict resolution and problem solving Must be able to follow and maintain city policies rules and regulations Ability to work in diverse work environments such as indoors/outdoors Experience or interest in interacting with people with and without disabilities in a recreational setting preferred Diligence and attention to detail Ability to perform under stress Conflict management skills Valid State Drivers License and reliable transportation to and from Parks Dept.
PHYSICAL MENTAL AND VISUAL SKILLS Maintains a cheerful and optimistic attitude Ability to stand for long periods of time Ability to stay calm under pressure Ability to lift at least 40 pounds or more at times at least 20 pounds often Ability to twist turn run be active and play
WORKING CONDITIONS Works with a diverse amount of cultures and people within the community Works inside and outside to provide programming in all weather conditions and seasons Noise levels can vary from quiet to high May involve driving to different locations and working out of different facilities
POST OFFER TESTING REQUIREMENTS The City of Elkhart is a Drug Free Workplace. Therefore successfully passing a post offer drug screen is required (random drug testing may be conducted after employment). Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
