ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL
GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK:
Performs difficult professional and responsible administrative work assisting the principal in the coordination supervision and management of the total school program and operation. As part of the administrative team the assistant principal provides leadership in activities and programs as necessary; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the principal. This is an exempt position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act. Employees holding exempt positions often are required to follow a flexible work schedule which may include working extended hours to meet specific job responsibilities. The contracted salary covers all hours worked. - Assists in planning supervising and evaluating the instructional program;
- Provides regular non-classroom supervision of students in all school locations and functions;
- Provides direct support to teachers with students materials equipment and supplies;
- Assists with extra curricular activities and field trips as assigned;
- Participates in the development of a master schedule;
- Attends all Parent Teacher Association meetings and related assemblies;
- Participates in child study team meetings;
- Conducts meetings with parents student and teachers;
- Enforces standards of discipline health safety and general welfare for students and maintains records and reports;
- Assists in the preparation of reports; the maintenance of inventories; and the distribution of materials books and equipment;
- Serves as acting principal in the absence of the principal;
- Serves on division-wide regional and state committees as necessary;
- Performs related tasks as required.

Thorough knowledge of the educational objectives practices methods and techniques used in the administration and supervision of all programs at the elementary school; thorough knowledge of prescribed School Board policies and procedures; strong oral and written communication skills; outstanding leadership and personal characteristics; a high degree of ability to motivate others.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a postgraduate professional license with an endorsement as an elementary school principal in Virginia and recent teaching experiences at the elementary level.
