Job Summary:
Medical Lab Scientist I (MLS I)performs various tests in the highly complex medical independent judgement in dealing with procedural technicaland customer service issues.
EssentialDuties & Responsibilities:
Promotesan engaged and positive environment among the laboratory team.
Performsphlebotomy and prepares specimens for analysis as needed or assignedto ensure a high level of quality is maintained.
Performcomputer functions including test requisition test resulting andquality documentation according to standard protocols.
Performshigh complexity laboratory testing according to protocol. Evaluatesspecimens for specimen integrity and accurate and complete labeling. Evaluates patient results for reasonableness.
Performsinstrument maintenance calibration and troubleshooting as scheduledor needed. Maintains appropriate documentation. Responds byfollowing established protocols.
Participatesin annual technical competency program which may include conductingdirect observations.
Participatesin proficiency testing in all areas of competence.
Assistsin training of new employees students and other lab personnel asappropriate.
Serveson committees and teams as needed or assigned activelyparticipating in meetings and completing tasks or assignments.
Activelyparticipates in continuing education.
Performsall other related duties as assigned.

EducationTraining or Degree Required:
BachelorsDegree in Chemical Physical Biological or Clinical LaboratoryScience or Medical Technology required.
License/Registration/CertificationRequired:
ASCPrequired. If eligible must complete within first 6 months ofemployment/moving into the position.
Willconsider other licensure if comparable to ASCP.
Proofof education in the form of diploma or transcripts that documentdegree.
Experienceand Skills:
Mustbe accurate and precise (required).
Manualdexterity (required)
Ableto work independently (required)
Excellentverbal and written communication skills (required)
Competentcomputer skills to navigate within a laboratory information system.(required)
Experiencein hematology chemistry urinalysis and blood bank. (required)
Ableto investigate equipment issues or follow troubleshootinginstructions from key operator and/or technical service. (required)
Possessa high degree of discretion and confidentiality
Experiencein microbiology (preferred).
Currentlaboratory experience or experience beyond internship (preferred).
