BEAUMONT HOSPITAL

Beaumont Hospital incorporating St. Josephs Hospital Raheny is a large academic teaching hospital 5km north of Dublin City centre. We provide emergency and acute care services across 54 medical specialties to a local community of some 290000 people. We are the national referral centre for Neurosciences Renal Transplantation Cochlear implantation and Mechanical addition Beaumont Hospital is an OECI-accredited Regional Cancer Centre with regional designation for Otolaryngology and Gastroenterology

St. Josephs Hospital Raheny operating under the governance of Beaumont Hospital is an acute hospital that provides both medical and surgical in-patient care day care outpatient outpatient physiotherapy and radiology services. A dedicated Care of the Elderly Rehabilitation Unit and a 100 bedded Raheny Community Nursing Unit have also been developed on the campus.

Beaumont Hospital is the largest Level 4 Academic Teaching Hospitals within the HSE Dublin and North East Region which includes Connolly Hospital Rotunda Hospital Cavan/Monaghan Hospitals Louth/Meath Hospitals Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and the National Orthopaedic Hospital Cappagh. We are the principal teaching hospital for our academic partner the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and enjoy close links with Dublin City University especially in the area of nurse training and with other academic institutions in respect of training and research.

Beaumont Hospital employs approximately 4700 staff and has a bed complement of 840 beds. Beaumont Hospital is the principal teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

The HSE Dublin and North East Region includes key national transplant related services. The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital incorporates the National Heart and Lung transplant Programmes while Beaumont Hospital incorporates the National Kidney Transplant Programme and the National Histocompatibility & Immunogenetics Service for Solid Organ transplantation (NHISSOT). This post will contribute to Transplant Immunology Services in the region.

Mater Misericordiae University Hospital

The Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) is a major voluntary teaching hospital in the HSE Dublin North East region and it delivers education in conjunction with University College Dublin (UCD). Central to the hospitals mission and ethos is the promotion of education and research with the aim of contributing to the highest standard of excellence possible in patient care. The Mater Hospital is one of eight national designated Cancer Centres.

The MMUH has a complement of 745 beds and 245 day beds and has two national specialities: Cardiothoracic Surgery (including heart and lung transplantation and Adult Congenital Heart Disease) and Spinal Injuries. Regional specialties include Ophthalmology Dermatology Breast Cancer Screening and Oncology. The hospital also provides services under a range of medical and surgical specialties including Cardiology Nephrology General and Vascular Surgery Urology and addition the hospital has one of the busiest adult Emergency Departments in the country. The hospital is aNational Cancer Control Program (NCCP)- designated cancer centre providing world-class cancer services.


The Immunology Department at MMUH provides a regional service to other hospitals including the Childrens University Hospital at Temple St St Vincents University hospital RH Mullingar the Mater Private and all GPs and nursing homes within the catchment area. The department offers a comprehensive range of Immunology tests that investigates the bodys immune response to diseases e.g. lymphocyte subset evaluation Calprotectin analysis Direct Immuno-fluorescence of Skin biopsies for MMUH Mater Private Hospital and Midland Regional Hospital Dermatology specialised protein investigation serum and protein electrophoresis coeliac disease connective tissue disease allergy testing and auto-immune disease investigations.

This is an appointment to the HSE Dublin & North East Region on a Public Only Consultant Contract 2023 by Beaumont Hospital (30.5 hours per week) and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (6.5 hours per week).

Applicants must be registered in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council in Ireland in the specialty of Immunology (clinical & laboratory).

Participation in the Transplant Immunology service is a requirement of this post. Applicants with no previous experience in transplant immunology are invited to apply as a proleptic appointment is possible with training provided.
