Job Details:

Purpose

First-Gen Longhorns celebrates and supports UT Austins first-gen community. First-Gen Longhorns oversees campus-wide events the First-Generation Living Learning Community and First-Gen Experience. This role will serve the First-Gen Experience program which supports all undergraduate first-generation students through the entirety of their college career. The program employees 20 Peer Success Coaches who serve as mentors to incoming first-gen college students. The GA will provide direct supervision to the cohort of Coaches providing them with key support to ensure that their responsibilities and expectations are met. Additionally this position will assist in planning monthly events for the entire first-gen community which includes community building professional development life-building skills and overall transition support.

Additional assistance will be provided for communications and marketing strategies including the First-Gen Newsletter social media content and general communication needs. The GA will also assist in general office duties and collaborating with campus partners in order to deliver programs for UT students.

  • Hours to be generally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend hours each month

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular check-ins with First-Gen Peer Success Coaches on a bi-weekly basis to share resources and provide support
  • Checks mentee log interactions to track activity and engagement
  • Communicate with professional staff about the needs and concerns of first-gen mentees
  • Attend and lead monthly staff trainings with First-Gen Peer Success Coaches
  • Attend and contribute to First-Gen Experience monthly events
  • Work with campus partners to help plan resource workshops
  • Assist in event planning for socials with mentees
  • Promote campus events and resources to first-gen students assisting in communications social media and newsletter creation
  • Represent the UT community by exhibiting exceptional academic well-being leadership and community model

Required Qualifications

  • Must be an enrolled graduate student (taking at least 6 hours). Preference will be given to Masters and Ph.D. students in the College of Educations Higher Education Administration program
  • A desire to work with and mentor first-gen students
  • Previous experience with coordinating student programs/events
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as a team member
  • Positive adaptable motivated and student-focused
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible to work some weekend and evening hours during orientation and extended orientation programs
  • Other experience/skills as relevant to specific position responsibilities

Salary
$19.33 per hour

Work Shift

  • Hours to be generally scheduled between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some evening and weekend hours each month
